I've had my FPB 300 for about two weeks. Every time I listen to it, I'm more amazed. The effortless grace with which it reproduces the entire audio spectrum is very impressive. This amp replaced a Levinson 331 which was no slouch. The Krell's soundstage depth is a little shallower than the Levinson but in every other characteristic I can quantify (and some I can't) the Krell is a far better amp.
I don't want to know how they do it. I don't care if some people say tubes can do it better. This amp is "it" for me. Until I can afford a FPB 600 of course.

Five stars for power, grace, detail, effortless bass, rich rounded midrange, overall excellence in construction. I also appreciate its utility as a furnace in the winter time as one other reviewer correctly noted.

Other equipment in the loop: Levinson 31.5, 36S, 380S, Thiel CS6, Transparent Cables.

Found the amp to be very warm and smooth. Dynamic and full. Also performed reliably in the time I've had it. Definitely recommended.

Strength:

Power, effortlessness, dynamic, open, great control of bass

Weakness:

McIntosh MC 352

The Krell is one great amp. I'd auditioned almost all solid state amps, and of the lot, the Krells pushed my Sonus Faber Extremas most convincingly.

Recently I heard a McIntosh MC 352, and I think it's a better amp. It's got all the strengths of a Krell, but what midrange! You'll have to go to tubes (Conrad-Johnson in particular) to get anything remotely as good.

4 stars for being the second-best 250 to 350 watter I've ever heard.

Strength:

An amp with incredible power reserves, and respectable sound quality.

Weakness:

Those first 15 minutes of operation until temperature stablization.

In the solid state arena, the FPB 300 has little competition (the Pass X350 and Bryston 7B's come to mind).

I found the Krell does exactly what's important in an amplifier product; it makes every attempt to let the music through without imposing its own sound, it keeps distortion levels low, and has no audible compresssion. Impressive indeed.

This is a solid state product, but with this design you get Class A power, low distortion, incredible speaker control, good MF and HF frequency reproduction, and that famous Krell bass slam and pace.

The amp is connected to a pair of Brian Cheney's VMPS FF1s. With their -3db rating at 16 Hz the FPB 300, this amp simply rock the house, it's truely a Bass Master (sorry Bryston).

The FPB 300 is operated in balanced mode and is driven from a Krell KRC-3 preamp. Digital source playback is through a Theta DS Pro Basic IIIa DAC and older Data Basic II transport. Speaker and interconnect cables are from Kimber Kable 8TC, Wireworld Altantis II Biwire, Mariago App. Ref 5, and DH Labs BL II.

For anyone thinking Krell is untouchable because of the long green needed, don't despair and investigate the used equipment market.

Enjoy the music...!!!
