Strength:

The sound is very smooth and clean, its just a perfect combination in the midrange and tweeter area. And the Bass, the bass is just outstanding. So fast and controlled...
The soundstage is very good to,very wide and big. Feels like the music comes behind the speakers .. from the wall behind.. Very nice

Weakness:

Its very heavy .. If that should be a weakness ?

This is a very good amp with lots of power and great handling in all sections. I have used the following equip :

Magneplanar 3.5 se
HT pro 11
HT Truth link
Copland 266 CD
Mark levinson 27.5
Sentec pre amp

The speakers i use is very hard to drive " 85 db ". When i play very high music, the power could be more. But for the sound it presents its word every penny !

If you have the chance to listen to it... Then do it !!

Strength:

Dual Mono construction.
Incredibly balanced and "sweet" sounding for a SS.
Speed and transparency with Vg bass slam.
Bullet Proof construction and reliablity.

Weakness:

loses out to Krell 250's in ultimate bass extension.

I started out buying the Ml 332 and was thoroughly disapointed. There was gobs of detail but the amp had no involvement and musical enjoyment was non existent.

A friend recommended I try out the 27.5 and 23.5 claiming that they were the best ML's ever in terms of musicality and tonal balance.

I approached my dealer and he thought I was crazy.
Anyway,to cut a long storey short, I traded in my 332 for a 27.5 and have not been unhappy since. The 23.5 offered more power but at the expense of some sweetness. Similarly the Krell 250 offered killer bass extension but was just plain raw on the upper frequencies.

Recently, I brought home a Threshold T 400 and pass Labs X-350. They were warmer than the 27.5 but did not offer that clarity and defintion that the 27.5 gave. In some recordings, there was a sense that both those amps rolled off upper freq.

This is one of the all time classic amps.
Stereophile first gave the 27 a class A rating and subsequently to the updated 27.5 in 1996. One of the few times, I thoroughly agree.

My equipment;
Watt/Puppy 5.1,Magnepans 1.6QR
Mark Levinson 27.5
Lamm LL2 pre
Meridian 508.24

Similar Products Used:

Threshold T 400, Mark Levinson 23.5, and 332.
Pass Labs X-350.
