Strength:
Rich sound, laid back yet accurate presentation of music. Very clean treble, almost silvery, and defined bass. Palpable midrange and tons of power. Impedence Sensing Circuitry allows economic use of power in relation to speaker loads.
Weakness:
None that I can detect. Only wish the amp had a distortion alert LED to let you know when to back off the volume. Seems very few units now a days incorporate that feature. The price paid is for a dealer demo otherwise retail is $599.00. Let me start off by saying the folks at Audio Alternatives are a great bunch of people. Very knowledgable, extremly courteous and highly accomodating. They only carry the finest so I was very comfortable in getting the unit from them. The only comparison I feel confident enough to do, as I have auditioned only a select few amps in my area, is between my previous amp, Soundcraftsmen Power 4 (MOSFET, Class H, designed in the mid 80's)and the NAD C270. As I have only had the NAD for a few days these are just my initial observations. The unit is fully broken in having been used as a demo so I feel safe enough in writting about it. This amplifier is superb in every way compared to my previous amp. For starters, the soundstage has increased dramatically. While before the sound seemed to totally emanate from my speakers, it now seems to engulf the listening room. You can literally place the musicians and the instruments effortlessly. Listening to Miles last night made me feel the band was playing in front of me. Closing my eyes was not even needed. You could stare straight out and still feel the presence. Highs are so sweet. Playing vinyl was an immense treat. Clarity and bass is stunning and well defined. This amp challenges you to bring it on. Personally I prefer analog over digital as I feel I can use a wider spectrum of the volume control of my preamp without worrying about damaging my speakers. There is a variable input on the back panel of the NAD to allow the owner to adjust gain in relation to their respective preamps and thereby have the ability to utilize a fuller range of the volume knob. NAD beleives most errors in signal occur at very low settings of volume knobs. I had never known that before. Either way, the C270 played all the notes with ease without any signs of strain. The midrange is all there and some. I read somewhere in a review of the unit that the midrange was a bit lean but I didn't get that impression. Maybe I need to condition my hearing more. Bass is very defined also. I have a sub but really don't feel the need to hook it up. Initially I wasn't sure if I liked the bass being so defined but I quickly changed my mind when percussion laden music was played. Kick drums sound very realistic and accurate. All the subtle nuances are there that can be easily picked out. Some Similar Products Used: B&K, Soundcraftsmen, Adcom. |

Strength:
Clear clean power
Weakness:
Switches on rear of unit feel cheezy I'm like everyone else here. I poured over all the reviews of anything close to my budget. I then went out to audition the equipment which fit my criteria. NAD was hands down the best based (imho)on clarity, simplicity, power and function. Do I believe that people can hear an audible difference from one audition to another in different stores days apart of similar quality equipment, no. I do believe people can tell build quality, tone quality and specs from one piece to another. Based on these 3 criteria, I believe this unit is a best buy. Just go get it. |

Strength:
excellent clarity and detail, balanced from high to low
Weakness:
may slightly supress the mid's I purchased the C270 to boost my NAD 740C. The 740 seemed to have a little trouble driving my Tannoy R3s as the highs and lows were slightly weak. While looking at this site I saw others who had purchased NAD gear at United Online. By chance, it was offered at $439.00. The C270 has plenty of power. While it filled out the highs and lows, it slightly supressed the mid on certain tracks. However, overall the sound is excellent. Depending on the quality of the recording, many of the tracks sound like a life-sized sound stage. I'm very happy with the C270. |

Strength:
A well made amp at a low price, without faults
Weakness:
None WE bought the C270 along with the C160 pre-amp. The machine was heavily auditioned against some of it's competitors. The C270, C160 combination won out because the music it made was fault free. There were no compromises we had to live with. Piano, male and female vocals, everything sounded just like it was supposed to. I've had the amp 10 months now and I would still buy it again. Strength:
To Paraphrase NAd's literature; "Plenty of clean detailed power"...Did I mention "Grain-free"?
Weakness:
none I purchased this amp to replce an old 2150 that was overheating and shutting itself down. The improvement in sound quality is quite pronounced and, frankly, more than I expected. The grain and glare is almost completely gone from the top end, and the over all sound is less congested and more transparent. Bass and imaging have also improved somewhat. Strength:
Clarity, definition, power
Weakness:
None yet Simply excellent sound. Very natural, relaxed and smooth. Awesome bass punch and slam. Solo piano is incredibly realistic as are other percussion instruments. The detailing of musical instruments in outstanding. On vocals, the person seems to be in the room with you. On reed instruments like flute, the breath of the artist and all the overtones are faithfully reproduced. The variable set of inputs is much appreciated as it makes matching the sub-woofer output much easier. A & B speaker outputs are also a nice touch. Overall, an excellent unit especially considering the price. Similar Products Used: Audio Research D-150, Electro Research model 1 |
