Strength:
Sound quality, build quality, warranty ( 20 years transferrable ) and support.
Weakness:
Size. 19" wide is fairly normal. 7.5" high is ok. 18" deep PLUS plugs yields an effective depth of about 22/23" which does NOT fit in my cabinent. So now I get to build/buy a new cabinent ... oh well, I'd still buy this amp - it's excellant. Superb Amp!!! Ok, now the pratical stuff. Replace the basic cord with a homemade cord. I used a hospital grade 15 amp plug, 5 ft of Belden 12 gauge wire, and a Marinco 15-amp plug. Total cost about $ 25.00 - big improvement in sound. Next, replace your wall outlet with a Pass & Seymour heavy duty outlet - $ 8 to $ 15 depending on the model. Also, helped the sound. Note that the power switch is on the BACK of the unit. This is the mfg's way of suggesting that you turn this beast on and LEAVE it on permently. I agree. The sound quality when 'warm' is much richer that when 'cold'. I pair this amp with Paradigm Studio-Ref 80 speakers. I was a bit skeptical if the amp would have the stones to control these speakers. As it turns out they are a near perfect match. Excellant 2-channel amp. VERY musical sounding. Not bright. Not annoying. Nice ... |

Strength:
Great Bass and mid-bass Extension, beautiful musical mids and treble, huge!!!!! soundstage, they barely run warm, XLR and Single ended inputs, did I mention the huge soundstage?
Weakness:
Hard to find weaknesses, wait is a little long but worth it. I had a chance to review the Stratos in my system for a while before I decided to choose my permanent amplifier. I also had the chance to compare this amp against 5 other highly rated amps. When I inserted the amp into my system and powered it up, my jaw nearly dropped to the floor. I had paid $2400.00 for a Bryston 4BST a year earlier and just could not get what I was looking for from my system. I dropped a $1000.00 Stratos in and now I had a soundstage, bass extension, beuatiful mids on the vocals, and a smooth, non-grainy music that I could listen to for hours. I also had the chance to compare against amps costing up to 5 times as much such as the Sim W-5, Ayre V-5, etc. The only thing that was close was the Sim. I also had a chance to take it to a dealer and give it a whirl on some JM LABS Utopias. I though it would clip on some of the low notes from a Fairfield Four album, but the amp pushed the big Utopias with Authority. I have since ordered the monoblocks from Klaus (who is awesome), and he has been most helpful. I am anxiously awaiting their arrival. I would highly recommend these amps to anyone looking for an amplifier in < $5000.00 category. Strength:
The ultimate, uncompromising amplifier. It sets a new standard in the high-end industry, regardless of price. Eventually, it will give the prestigious manufacturers a run for their money.
Weakness:
Sonically, none or yet to be found. As a commercial product, it is unknown to most authorities and thus ignored by many. They need to be invited to some listening sessions! I had been happy with my equipment until disaster struck and my Hafler 9303 amp broke. My speakers, the Ethic loudspeakers are floorstanding minimonitors, made in Connecticut by Adjo Corporation. These speakers are totally neutral and faithul to the music, hidden jewels that only a few privileged people know about. They represent a similar value to the Odyssey Stratos. When the rest of the equipment is up to par, they can recreate a live perfomance as it is meant to be heard. I plunged into the reviews on audioreview.com in search of a new amp. This a is how I discovered the Stratos and immediately sensed that there was something unique about this amp. The reviews gave me the inkling that it must the real thing. Never have I encountered a piece of equipment which unequivocally pleased everyone. This is the only amplifier which garnered the highest rating from all, regardless of their listening tastes and the diverse configurations which the amp was used in. I decided to call Mr.Bunge who proved to be the congenial gentleman that he was described. He is always a pleasure to talk to and never acts as a salesman. I ordered a stereo unit with the capacitance upgrade. The amp arrived after the standard 4 week waiting time. It is enormous, looks imposing with the golden faceplate, beautiful binding posts. I immediately noticed a modest but definite improvement over the Hafler. The Odyssey moved more air and the bass was tighter, more controlled. The sound was a little on the bright side but not harsh by any means. After about two days, a magical transformation took place. The sound was literally evolving before my very ears, getting better every day. The soundstage is immense, the dynamics is stunning, the drums and orchestral crescendos almost knock me off the chair. The bass is extremely deep and robust. . The midrange is splendidly rich and the highs are soaring. The vocals sing with stark realism. The instruments retain their original character and timbre. I’m enveloped in a three dimensional, holographic soundstage where I could pinpoint every single vocalist and instrument The music springs to life and exudes the magical aura of the original perfomance. This system has it all, it’s the next best thing to live music. It makes me forget about equipment and I get fully immersed in the music. The only limitation is the recording. I must acknowledge that everythi Similar Products Used: Proton, Dynaco S-70, Creek, Adcom, Hafler, Electrocompaniet, Copland |

Value, fidelity to source, power, imaging, build quality. Klaus is a great guy too and a wonderful source of information and advice.
Weakness:
Long break in and delivery delay. I've owned the amo since late December 2001 after a long wait. It is flat and lifeless with no dynamics out of the box. I call it wall paper sound becauseit is two dimensional. After a week it opened up and continued to open up for the next 6-8 weeks. It seemed to plateau with all the positive attributes of high fidelity audiophile musical reproduction (timbre, timing, power, imaging, etc) until about 2 weeks ago when it just blossomed. New weight and bass extension and deeper soundstaging to an already powerful and deep presentation. There is no better value for the money and it competes with amps 3 to 4 times its price-it just takes time to break in. I upgraded to the 120,000 cap option. It is well worth the money. Massive design which is cool running. Klaus is a pleasure to deal with. Step out and go purple or copper!
Weakness:
Long burn in. Long wait after order (but well worth it). After burning in my Odyssey Stratos amplifier for 4 weeks, I finally sat down to do some critical listening. The reviews do not deceive--this amp is very musical, without coloring. The base response is tight and controlled. Midrange is well-detailed with highs that aren't glaring or fatiguing. I highly recommend the amplifier as a real audio value and stalwart performer. Similar Products Used: Parasound, Classe, Sony |

Strength:
Sound quality, build quality Have had mine for about 4 months and must say that this amp does everything that I could ask for plus some. Sound quality is second to none in its price range and equals amps of higher cost. Not much to say that hasn't already been said. As for quality, I have had NO problems whatsoever. The amp just sits there and does its job beautifully. Build quality is excellent inside and out. It looks like myself and 80 others feel the same way. As a plus, Klaus is an awesome guy with a genuine caring for his company and products. Similar Products Used: Parasound, anthem |

Strength:
Superb soundstaging and liquid midrange
Weakness:
Bass maybe a bit shy for some.. It's all said many many times in the reviews below. This is the best you can get for around 1 grand. Mine is the upgraded version with 120,000 uF. Compared it to the Bryston 4b ST, 9B (2channel version), Rotel 1080, NAD, Marantz, etc. it is way better, either by price or by sound. Compared to the 4B I found it to be really much more sweeter, and seemed to drive my speakers more effortlessly. I am using a Rotel RC-1070 preamp and it matches wonderfully. This is a great way to set up an audiophile system without spending a fortune. Similar Products Used: Bryston 4B, 9B |

Strength:
Great build, excellent grip, great company to deal with
Weakness:
At this price point, none This amplifier truly represents exceptional value. The build quality is exceptional, and the sound outstanding. I found the amplifier to be uncongested and smooth with my Vandersteen 3A speakers. Nevertheless, I decided to go a different direction, tubes, and returned the unit under the 30 day trial plan. When I spoke with Klaus, his only concern was what I did not like about the unit. The man certainly takes pride in his proudct, and is genuinely concerned about the customer. Strength:
I have the monos which are fantastic...stereo stratos on order.
Weakness:
The wait time. Perhaps bulkier than other amps, and the design is pretty basic. This review is in response to the "review" posted by the previous "gentleman." I own the Odyssey Stratos Mono Blocks. My name is Mike Wagner, and my email is mdeanwags@comcast.net. I did significant research and chose the Odyssey Stratos Mono Blocks to drive my Martin Logan Ascents. I have since ordered a mono for the center channel and a stereo Stratos to drive the rears. The wait is long, and yes, Klaus was in in New York recently because I spoke to him on his cell phone when I called to check the status of my recent order. Since you are skeptical, email me to discuss the amps, or to arrange a visit to my home by you or someone you know in this area that wants to audition the amps on the Logans which drop to very low impedances and are extremely demanding. I, too, was extremely skeptical of the number of favorable reviews, and my purchase was based on a money back guarantee if not completely satisfied. The amps are fantastic. I had a Yamaha 995 receiver (100 watts per channel with great specs such as low THD, etc). The Yamaha was great for driving my 8 ohm Boston Acoustics, but the Logans literally chewed the receiver up. I was sick to my stomach because I spent $4000 on the Ascents and they sounded NOTHING like when I auditioned them on a high end Krell amp and preamp. Klaus solved my problem for just over $2000. I met him. He does exist. I own the monos. They sound great. Yes, the wait sucks, but Klaus told me when I bought them that the wait would be several weeks. Regarding "fake" reviews, Klaus has a money back guarantee. Therefore, when someone from some town Klaus hasn't shipped to (and his one on one sales means he tracks EVERY unit) claims the amps sound bad, Klaus does some checking. If you spent over $1000 on an amp with a money back guarantee and didn't like it, would you keep it because you were too busy to return it but suddenly find time to "review" it on some audiofile site? Give me a break. Your review should be removed because it is clearly fraudulent. I was skeptical, but the amps are great. Do your homework, and have the courtesy to LISTEN to the amps before posting a negative review. Your ignorance should be forgiven, but your mean-spirited attack on a legitimate business should not. Love the Tempest, a great preamp for a bargain price.,
Weakness:
None that I can detect. Regards MBS's concerns. I ordered a Tempest preamp from Odyssey and since receiving it in February I've talked to Klaus on the phone four times asking questions about system interaction, cables, cartridge selection, etc. Every time I call he answers the phone and gives me as much time as I need, and he's really patient with my often repetitive questions. I can't imagine why MBS is having a hard time contacting Klaus. I usually call Klaus late in the afternoon or evening, and even if he's on a cell phone driving he's happy to talk to me. So, I'm baffled by MBS's inability to get through to Klaus as I get him every single time. Mike Similar Products Used: ARC sp3a, SPpII, Melos 222, CJ PV5 |
