Strength:

Great sound, very detailed

Weakness:

Long break-in time of 50+ hours, picks up AC noise if not plugged in surge protector

Great stereo amplifier. When I first open the box and plugged it in, the sound was good, but not great. After 1 month of listening (about 2 hrs/day), the sound was MUCH better. The highs were less bright while the overall sound had less raspiness to it. Very good reproduction of mid and low end. Cable also makes a big difference with this amp.

Strength:

It’s value, build quality and style is amazing. An incredibly rich musical experience with a smooth tonal balance and a soundstage that just feels real and involving.

Weakness:

It takes some time to break in. It will tend to show the faults of your set up and accentuate them, so matching is important. (as with any component) Leans ever so slightly to being bright, however, the right cables can fix most of that.

My listening room consists of the following: Paradigm Monitor 7’s v.2 (Mains) Sony SACD 222ES (Source 1) Denon AVR 3802 (Pre/Reciever) Technics 1200MKII (Source 2) Monster Z series cabling throughout With that out of the way, I purchased the Halo A23 about six months ago. Immediately the sound was improved in detail, tone, and presence. However it tended to be a bit forward for my tastes and bright. Listener fatigue became a little bit of an issue. After a few hours the faults began to calm. A month later and the Halo really settled down into a respectable amp. About two months after purchase an amazing thing happened, the amp really seemed to open up. The sound transformed into something a little more subtle and liquid by nature. Everything smoothed out. The tonal balance was rich and smooth across the page without sacrificing any of its previous detail. The soundstage opened up tremendously placing instruments and sounds in their appropriate places in the room. The performers seemed to take center stage; this was especially true with female vocalists. The higher frequencies became less biting and were able to hold in space longer. The amp really changed from the raw translation of the data on my CD’s to the performance; bringing that “musical” quality Parasound is known for. Though not the final word in amplifiers today the Parasound Halo is, without a doubt, the best for well under a grand and probably more.
