Strength:

Powerful, smooth yet tight bass

I own a first generation of the Parasound HC-1200. I picked one up used after my Sumo Andromeda died. This initial tragedy turned out to be a blessing in disguise. In regard to the HC-1200’s workmanship and construction, I must agree with a previous writer who wrote, “it is build like a tank.” Despite the amp being one of Parasound’s older models, it is able to compete with the best of them. The design philosophy behind the product aids in producing sound that is extremely smooth yet powerful. Jazz sounds great. Vocals have presence. As we all know, the amplifier is a crucial component (equal to that of speakers) in replicating great sound. The addition of the HC-1200 has made my Bang and Olfson speakers sound as if they have been resurrected. Albeit these amps are not prone to overheating, I do not recommend placing the HC-1200 in a cabinet as the cooling fins need sufficient air circulation to maintain operation. Finally, the bottom line is this: if you come across one of these amps consider it seriously.
