Again, to further consolidate the merits of the Parasound HCA-2205A, the importer of the Sunfire products in Egypt, a close friend of mine, did listen
to the Parasound and was of the same opinion in regards to its SUPERIORITY
over the Sunfire Theatre Grand amp. The case is clear and requires no further
comparisons in this price range. The Parasound is the KING in this price niche.

Sonically, the Parasound HCA-2205A also wins over the Sunfire Stereo
rated at 300 watts per channel.Naturally, the Sunfire is more powerfull but this, as stated before, does in no way mean a higher sound quality.

It also beat the Krell KAV-250 stereo amplifier (Krell's home theatre amp line)
in sonics. Maybe the Krell had more authority on the speakers, but that's not
enough in my opinion. A true balance of performance is the secret to success.
And in this, the Parasound HCA-2205A succeeds IN SPADES!!

I couldn't agree any more with the two gentlemen below me!! I've now had my 2205A for about a month and am very pleased with it!!!! A friend of mine tried to get me to go with the Bryston 9BST, but after demo-ing the Bryston, I still felt that the Parasound sounded better, hands down!!
The parasound has everything that I'm looking for in a power amp: performance, build quality, and to a lesser extent pleasing aesthetics. I think that the 2205A could not perform any better given its price. The bass is deep and plentiful, the midrange is very warm, natural, and clear, and the treble is pretty accurate as well!! I feel that the Parasound is far better than any receiver (Denon 5700) I've ever owned for both music and home theater.

Overall, the Parasound 2205A is a great amplifier that produces a natural, warm sound that is a good match for bright sounding speakers (I use B&W CDM 1SE which sound a bit bright). Five stars to John Curl and Parasound for producing such a fine product at a reasonable price!!

It is sad that people like dave have to comment on reviews from magazines to make an opinion (I wonder if he even listened to this amp?) I have lived with this amp for a couple of weeks now and I think that in its price range it is one of the best I have heard. I have listened to the Proceed Amp 5 and that is without question in my opinion superior to the HCA-2205A but it is also double the price. I wish people like Dave would not trash things without even listening to it. If I wanted a reprint of Home Theater Magazine I would buy it and they never said they did not like it in fact they thought it was great. I am going to give the HCA-2205A 5 stars for the sound quality and build in its price range.

Please people dont be like Dave and trash something just for the sake of trashing it. I like to see what other people think but there are very few things that deserve a 1 star. If you enjoy this site as much as I do then please keep this in mind.

Thank you Michael for your comments. As you said about the Proceed, it is without doubt a higher level in amplification but, in my opinion, this difference doesn't justify a double in pricing . I think here we may have
the Law of Diminishing Returns setting in.

As I emphasized before, the Parasound HCA-2205 is superb for what it does at
how much it retails.

To echo your advise to non-serious folks: Magazine reviews are only a guide-line. The TRUTH is in the LISTENING !

Happy Listening

I wrote that review echoeing Sharifs comments about Sunfire Cinema Grand both the amps recieved equal reviews in Home Theater as well as other publications. They said things like Audiophile sound at a home theater price. Ultimately the Sunfire Cinema Grand is a music lovers amp that provides more than competent performance in home theater applications.I dont think there is anything wrong with the Parasound what so ever but giving it 1 star is no differnt than giving the Cinema Grand 1 star. Both are fine amps as are others.I apologize for bashing a product that did not deserve it but I have heard both and just copied the Sunfire review and changed it to Parasound.

After agonizing for months on my first system purchase, I am sooo glad I went with the HCA 2205a. It is effortlessly powerful and clean.
The unit puts forth very low, clean bass and glass breaking highs. The thing weighs a ton (well, 87lbs.), has seperate power supplies, looks good and just cranks to your heart's content. Bravo Parasound and John Curl.

One annoyance, the speaker wires are a bitch kitty to hook up due to the connectors' close location with one another. Nimble fingers required. Still a solid 5'er, especially at $2,100 purchase ($2,495 list).

I have just purchased this amp and have to say that I am delighted with it!I replaced my B&K AV5000mkii with the Para and I was AWESTRUCK! These were hooked up to Definitive Tech system consiting of BP2000, CLR2000 and BPX surrounds. I recently sold my Def techs to upgrade to Dynaudio 1.3's, but I
got a chance to hear the Def tech's with this amp. Guess what? If I would have
heard this amp originally with my speakers, I would never have sold them! I think I made a mistake by selling them. The High's are HIGH and the mid's are
smooth. It has a great low end too!! I really feel like you get a lot of headroom with this bad boy. I was also thinking about the Sunfire Cinema Grand.
I am not going to slam Sunfire, but I have to say that I think this is a
MUCH better amp. I know when I finally get my Dynaudio Contour center and 1.1's
for the rear, I will be AMAZED. If you are thinking, "Parasound??"= Low budget!
Think again. I can't say enough about how AWESOME this amp sounds (And right
out of the box to boot!!) Save your money if you are considering Bryston,Aragon,
Cinepro,Classee,Krell(You too,KAV-500) and any other high end amp, and do yourself a favor. Go and at least listen to this amp!! It is also THX ULTRA
certified!! You can't go wrong.

Rock solid amplifier at a rock solid price.Everything about this amp is well done. From the RCA interconnects to the binding posts. I would have prefered a tad more room on the binding posts for thick or rigid bare wire.
Very smooth natural sound. Nothing stands out sound wise which is good.
Other than that I still give this amp 5 stars.
