The DSP A2 really is an excellent product. Had heard the DSP A1 before, but when I heard this when demoing some speakers (Reference 3A Baccarat, sources were Pioneer CLD 925, Denon DVD 3000) I was absolutely stunned by the sound quality. Particularly stereo performance was very clean and detailed for a surround amp. However, Dolby Digital, DTS and pro-logic modes are also great. After running the amp in at home(and playing with the setup parameters of the surround modes for a couple of weeks) it sounds just as great at home.

However, although Yamaha's DSP modes are far supperior to those of many other
manufacturers, I am still disappointed by the density of the reverb effect
that is generated. Clearly the DSPs used by Yamaha are still not powerful enough. Unfortunately, this seriously affects the quality of the effects.
Also, there is the issue of the remote, but that has been discussed enough in the DSP A1 reviews...

Still, compared to other AMPs , a five star product.

I bought the gold version recently through www.xceltech.com.hk. Lovely piece. Sounds great and definitely worth the HKD 8700 that I paid for it.
You can see a review of DSP-A2 at Home Cinema Choice website (which convinced me to buy this unit) :
http://homecinemachoice.com/tried&tested/Amplifiers/index.html?Yamaha/YamahaDSP-A2.shtml

You can get the DSP-A2, dual voltage in Hong Kong for $1130 (after a little negotiation). I picked my unit because I'm here on assignment for 3 months. Xceltech also ship worldwide. Strange, but their prices including delivery (they also sell the 'big brother' DSP-A1 Gold version at around USD 1800) are seem cheaper than local prices in the US.

I just bought the Yamaha DSP-A2 after 10 months of difficult deciding on what home cinema system to buy. Going to the store I had decided on buying the RX-V795RDS (after evaluating the DSP-A1092, RX-V595RDS, DSP-A1 and H/K AVR 55/65/85), but then I found out that the delivery time would be about 2 months, so I promptly changed my mind and went for the DSP-A2 instead - a decision I definitely do not regret!
The unit sounds awesome in both cinema and music mode. There is more power than you'll probably need - I have not been able to turn up the volume to more than about 50%. The addition of a DTS decoder is nice and feels 'future-proof'.

Installation was a breeze and the settings are easy to change once you eye through the well-written manual.

The rest of my setup includes Pioneer DV-515 (DVD), Yamaha TX-592 (Tuner) and Canton Twin800 5.1 speaker system.

Strength:

ACE WHEN WATCHING DVD'S IN DTS MODE!!!

Weakness:

A BIT DULL IN STEREO (CEARFUL PLACEMENT OF SPEAKERS CAN SOMETIMES DO THE TRICK)

I HAD BEEN LOOKING AT THIS AMP FOR SOME TIME AND THEN A FRIEND HAD ONE, SO I RUSHED OVER TO HAVE A LISTEN (THIS WOULD BE THE DECIDER)

GO THERE, AND SET IT UP STUCK A FILM ON AND WOW,
THIS WAS BETTER THAN BEING AT THE CINEMA...
PANNING EFFECTS ALL AROUND THE ROOM, AND FLOOR SHAKING BASS.. EVEN THOUGH HE ONLY HAD BOSE SPEAKERS AND A SMALL RELL SUB IN A BIG ROOM IT STILL SOUNDED GREAT..

I TOLD HIM THAT HE SHOULD GO AND GET SOME B&W'S

THAT WAS IT I WAS DOWN THE LOCAL SUPERFI STORE NEXT DAY...

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A AV AMP AND ARE ON A BUDGET THEN THIS IS THE ON FOR YOU... I PICKED MINE UP FOR £635... AND THAT WAS 5 MONTHS A GO...

I bought A2 before 2 weeks and I'm very happy with it. It is almost identical with the A1. In DD and DTS the quality of the sound is exactly the same. In stereo mode A1 sounds better. In this price you can't find better pre/amp. I use the A2 in a 16 x 18 feet room with Mirage FRx series speakers and it realy rocks.

Strength:

Nearly everything! Remote, DD sound, dts sound, movie dsp, music dsp, display, inputs outputs!

Weakness:

Lack of test tone, reversing the speaker setup(Dont think that one excists though..!) so the fron becomes the back sp.
Could have had one more coaxial digital input next to the cd, LD/DDV (RF!) inputs!

I bough it 9 months ago, and I am very pleased with it.
WHen I play a dvd movie with DD5.1 it just blows me away.
It hass fricking great sound!

Like the others, I also think that the stereo mode (effect off) is kinda dull, though my C.Vega speakers dont know the first thing about details it still sounds a bit...off!
But there is great punch and firmness in the bass, and with my newly aquired sub the sound pictures gets really great if you arent a super detail realismo frick with the stereo.
I have a pc in the other side of the room next to the surround speakers and Id really like it if yamaha could have somehow manage to put in a reversation mode witch the speakers would in the back would become the front speakers so I could enjoy a decent game on the net with great sound. Feels strange when the the sound comes infront of you and you hear is from behind. Just a though.
I also miss the test tone the A1 has, cause it makes it easyer to detect stanting waves and that stuff. However one could easily buy a cd with such, and problem solved.

Love the surround dps programms, NOTHING get even CLOSE to the sound of ENYA in Raymount Church (mode)! It is UTTERLY mindblowing! A MUST HEAR!
THe movie dps prog. I seldom use, dont know why, just dont.
Great dot matrix display, easy to read, not does stupied strange cheep lcd calculator letters that looks more like numbers! What else..., Ahh, it ONLY has one coxaial digital input next to the RF input that I cant use cause of I dont have a ld/dvd player.

Thats all.
