Strength:
This device gives an involving, subtle and layered sound, especially suitable for classical, jazz and singer/songwriter style music. Terrific price/performance ratio! I had the AMC 3050a for many years before this XIA 50 (liked it the same). Phono MM and MC input and Phones output far better than average amplifiers in this price range (400-600 euro). Weakness:
It does not sound spectacular (which is actually a strength too), because it has a very natural and laid-back timbre. Do not match with thin sounding speakers...this amp needs some juicy or groovy speakers to balance. If you do, then you ll enjoy without listener's fatigue and have an allround compact amp. Price Paid: 500

Picked up a used XIA (no USB port on the model I purchased) for $150 off eBay. I had originally bought the amp as part of a system for my wife. This little integrated does not disappoint! Plenty of power, and then some, to drive a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 monitors. A detailed, smooth and at the same time robust sound with nice separation and imaging. Perhaps the nicest surprise was the XIA's headphone stage: it does a really, really good job of driving my AKG K501. |
