I've had this amp for 10 years. It sat unused for most of that time. The original Chinese tubes were awful. The full set of Russian tubes were not much better. After some other adventures I came back to this amp. I subbed in some old American tubes pulled from hammond organ and leslie speakers. The driver tubes opened my ears. Later I found 2 tubes stenciled hammond, one labeled made in Holland, the other labeled great Britain. Bingo. As I recall, the 845 is a tube historically made in Russia,so there not be a non Russian tube, but the preamp and driver tubes made the magic happen. At 17 watts per channel you need efficient speakers. I'm running Altec 846b's@96 efficiency. gaming laptop under 10000
