Strength:

well built.Conveys music in clear, detailed, neutral fashion.Dead silent between musical passages. supports biwiring.

Weakness:

remote only works on Denon cd players and tape players.no pre-out/main-in option for those interested in home theater/multi-channel dvd audio playback

Simply stated, I absolutely love this integrated!I bought it at Tweeters in Portland for $889.00,after comparing it with an Adcom pre/power set up, and a yamaha integrated. I dont know whether it is the best in its price range, or the worst.I only know that from the first Ive been amazed at the way it has conveyed my music with unfailing neutrality, and confidence far exceeding its modest 80 wpc power rating. Even its rather plain but substantial build oozes know how and reliability! The speaker binding posts are a joy! widely spaced for easy access, solid and accommodating. The best of the cds Ive had and listened to for years have opened up through the Denon, revealing layers of musical details that have arrived like a revelation for me. The worst of my cds still sound dull and compressed, much as they were made and as ever.Listening to everything from Laura Nyro to Smashing Pumpkins to Mingus, I can tell you that the Denon gets the pace, and allows you too as well. Not having the education or words of the audiophile, i cant really make suggestions or give warnings Pertaining to The Denon pma 2000r integrated. Im sure my own system could be improved upon greatly. I can say that I would recommend this integrated with wholehearted condfidence, and give it 5 speakers to boot!

Strength:

Power, Neutrality, Clarity, Non-Japanese Sound.

Weakness:

None yet, could be better if a little sweeter, so that low quality CDs sounds better, but it is OK for good recordings.

I feel sorry about the earliest reviewer here who only gave one star to this amp. He said he returned the amp to dealer the week he picked it up, which is very wrong, THIS AMP CHANGES DRAMATICALLY BEFORE AND AFTER BREAK-IN! AND SOUNDS MUCH BETTER THAN ADCOM PRE + POWER.

I am very happy with my Denon driving a pair of Celestion A1. Not all the amps are created equal, some sound good right out of box, some sound bad all the way down. This amp sounds totally different before or after 100 hours. The initial sound is hard and annoying, but smooth out after break-in.

It's a Denon, but it doesn't have any "Japanese sound" in it. However, it's pretty neutral and Hi-fi, somehow like their POA top amps. Bass power and control is the best I know of below US$1000, definately beyond it's 80 Watt label, mid range is open and treble is very detailed. I hear some details from this amp which is absent from Adcom, I use the Adcom pre with headphones and those details are there, so I'd guess the Adcom power amps are just not as good as their pres.

If you are looking for sth sweet and warm this is not for you, because it doesn't sweeten anything, but it's not cold either, it's just neutral, which means good recordings sounds good and bad ones sounds bad, the balance of this amp is good and I never want to use the tone control.

Both Creek 5250 and Marantz PM17 are wonderful amps, but to work with low efficiency speakers (I have Celestion A1) PMA2000 just have more power, especially at high volume, the Denon remains poised while others starts to lose dynamics. This amp can go very loud with little distortion in sound, and still remain very low background noise. The Adcom does have power to go loud, but after turning the volume beyond one o'clock you hear unpleasant hiss. The Denon, however, goes more than 3 o'clock position without detectable background, the manual indicates 110db SN, which I believe is true.

The remote control looks much better than Creek, and the 20 kg box is very solid. This is a serious piece of Hi-Fi amp from construction to sound quality, and it deserves consideration if you are looking for both power and detail from under $1k. I agree with Sam Tellig at stereophile about this amp, if you have a warm-sounding source and dynamic speakers, this might be best choise for its price. Highly recommended!

Strength:

Pleanty of power, very detailed

Weakness:

None yet

The amp is very powerfull, much beyond the mere 80w it lists, I personally find this the best integrated amp out there. I listened to many others and found this amp could run almost any speaker I could throw on it, and run them clearly and detailed, I personally use NHT speakers, and have even heard the 3.3's run through this amp, and it handled them just fine. Not even the acurus a200 with a r11 preamp could make them sound as good as this denon. So for the money it really is worth it, if you are looking for an integrated.
