I have recently purchased the Jolida SJ-302 amp and am simply blown away by the results. If you are a cynic when it comes to tube gear, you've probably not heard this amp. Tubes have been praised for their "musicality" and "warmth" and criticized for their "flabby bass", the fact that they use dangerous, hot tubes, and because the tubes must be replaced. This amp deserves much praise for its "musicality" and warm sound. The midrange and treble will definitely speak to you and are not fatiguing to listen to even after several hours. The soundstage is very expansive and unrestrained in all dimensions except perhaps in the verticle orientation. The verticle soundstage is very difficult to reproduce in terms of amplifier design; in general, only the very best amps (costing several thousands of U.S. dollars) can accurately portray the verticle orientation. I expected good imaging and warm sound from a tube amp, but was totally unprepared for the bass. I am using a 12" passive sub with Optimus Pro LX-5 speakers. This amp, rated at 50wpc, had excellent bass punch and tightness. With the volume at 12 o'clock, the walls vibrate! This amp therefore is suitable for not only acoustic music, but also provides the dynamics and power to make Rock music sound great. Truly, this amp will provide 95% of the sound available from much more expensive amps for only U.S. $850. If you hear this amp, you may never again be satisfyed with solid-state amps.

Strength:

Smooth tube sound, excellent midrange, incredible value for the $.

Weakness:

low quality knobs and pots.

Ive had my 302a for a year now and am amazed by the sound. to get to this point however, i was _required_ to do a couple of innexpensive and simple upgrades to make it sound this good. first, i upgraded the power tubes to teslas. after break in, these tubes dramatically improve bass response and detail. i dont really know if it was the teslas, but the stock tubes certainly require replacement

second: get a set of vibrapods #3 and stick them below the 302a's feet. the difference was amazing. resonances from the speakers really keep the 302a from reaching its potential. once i did this was knocked on my ass by the improvement.

both upgrades should run a total of about $150. however, the results make the amp comparable (or superior) to any other hifi amp setup i have ever heard at any price.
