Strength:
1. As Compact - as you could resonably hope for. 2. Listenable sound at all levels. 3. The FULL monti - Amp, CD, Tuner, pre-amp output in a single box. 4.It can even turn on a mains appliance using the timer if that grabs you! 5. Well written instruction manual.
Weakness:
The handset. It controls some features that the multi function facia display either can''t or requires some pretty non-intuitive action to achieve. Hell it''s got a whole load of function this m/c - amp/CD tuner/timer etc. so you may expect it to be complex (I can''t remember how many buttons fill the remote - maybe 50?) However, the buttons are all the same size, laid out symmetrically, and the layout is by function supported only by the ''small'' graphics. So, if you like to listen in subdued lighting - who doesn''t - you may find it hard to make the ''right'' click. A more ergonomic layout would help - i.e make the basic functions of : on/off, volume, Source, CD track select, Radio station preset select more tactile - grouped together, feel different!!!! If you want an integrated product then this has more integration than you can shake the proverbial stick at. 1. A fine and (reasonably) powerful amp - fills my 24 foot listening room via Linn Tukans (wall mounted using the fantastic and solid optional Linn wall mount accessory) - that enables satisfactory listening at ALL volume levels, compared with some kit (Nait??!!) that only seems to come alive at higher volume levels. 2. A decent CD player 3. A tuner - introduced during the life of the Classik, some people may not have this, and therefore a bonus in my view - it isn''t the best tuner in existance, but the option of pulling in some free music from time to time is a bonus. FM freaks will want to look elsewhere. 4. Pre-Amp output - I use this to feed the output to a slave, line level controled, poweramp to give me the same source in the kitchen. NB This has now been facilitated in the latest version of the Classik by the addition of Linn multi-room capability - I may have waited for this version if I''d known! In General - a maturing piece of Kit, witness the FM addition and now multiroom, that is in an unbelieveably compact package. The remote does leave something to be desired - see below. A primary reason for choosing this to replace my existing set-up was because I wanted something that my toddlers couldn''t readily turn the volume knob to MAX on, but, as a package with the now, sadly defunct, Linn Tukans this is a kicking piece of kit that I''d recommned to anyone. Similar Products Used: I''ve never owned this type of highly integrated item before - a music centre is the most similar item in my mind - but if you paid the significant overhead and upgrade from such an item I''m confiden |

Strength:
smooth yet detailed sound with real power! More than the spec''s would indicate.
Weakness:
Nothing realy. At this price absoulutly nothing! If you are in the market for great sound at a resonable price, then this player is for you! Simply great sound! Does my referance system sound better...a bit, but at four times the cost. after a year I''m still stunned by the value represented here! Similar Products Used: Wadia 861,Linn Genki |

Strength:
Great Sound, Fabulous CD player and Great tuner in one box
Weakness:
None yet. I just recently got my Classik (a store demo so nicely broken in). The sound is incredible! The CD really is quite something to hear. Also when you consider the costs of a good CD player and interconnects the price is pretty compeditive. Similar Products Used: NAD C740 and Yamaha Reciever, with Yamaha CD players. |
