Strength:

Transparency, neutrality, and impressive bass control.

Weakness:

has no pre outs.

Excellent effort by marantz! I tried everything to get mass market, zippy, crude sound. I bad speakers, phony cables and overpriced digital sources. Nothing worked. What I have is neutral, transparent accurate sound. Very impressive and its pricepoint. This amp is so succesful in its audio goals that other manufacturers and dealers such as Rotel and BAD have posted many low ball posts to lower the ratings. PM7000 was Europes "Amp of the Year". A true audio bargain!

Strength:

very good detail, sound of string orchestra is great, control of speakers

Weakness:

almost everything else: this amplifier makes no music, it puts sounds in sequence which results in zombie-like effects and eliminates all the emotions in the music. Very annoying to listen to.

Bad points for Marantz: what an extreme waist of production capacity and energy ! I owned this amplifier for a week and tried everything to get music out of it: four different speakers, different cdplayers, tuners, cables and interconnects. Alas... Took it back to the hifi dealer and tried the NAD 350 (450 euro). This amplifier performed splendid and without any effort: so take the NAD350: highly recommended....

Strength:

Very good sound quality for a great price

Weakness:

tape monitor not possible with source direct on.

I am using this amplifier with a Marantz CD-67mkII, Technics tuner and tape-deck, a Thorens turntable with a Denon MC-high output element and Mission 761 speakers. In the short time I am using this amplifier now, I have become very enthusiastic about it. It replaced my Denon PMA-260 (a much weaker amplifier) and the quality of the sound, sound balance, transparancy and the availability of bass at low volumes have greatly increased. I didn't know that my speakers could produce so much bass. I also hear more details.

I bought a Marantz SR7000 DD/DTS box last year, but wasn''t happy with the stereo sound. It just didn''t inspire me to listen to cd''s. I decided to go for a good 2 channel system instead, so I went back to the store. After comparing the SR7000 to the PM 7000, there was really no comparison. The PM was better and the difference was very noticable. The bass that was lacking in the SR was there on the PM and the overall sound made it worth "upgrading" to to 2 channel. (I saved $300).

Strength:

Sound, look, build, value.

Weakness:

1. Plastic knobs on the back 2. Remote (not so bad, but....) 3. No indication light on the volume control.

Excellent Amp especially for its attractive price. Very natural, warm, even a little flat, but still colorful. I am missing a little bit of the mid range. With the right cd-player and speakers this would not be a problem. (It depends on your test, too) p.s. A few days ago, I checked superaudiovideo.com, but I did''t see it, maybe they don''t sell it there anymore. It becomes hard to find.

Strength:

huge power output

Weakness:

heavy drums and bass lines.

I just purchased the Marantz PM-7000 Integrated Amplifier.
I am VERY impressed with the clarity of the bass, but it loses some treble and mids detail.
Perfect amplifier for Rock and Electronic music. But there is better for clasica and jazz.

It's identical that PM-68 with new chassis?

I had a really hard time finding integrated amps in the price range of the PM7000 to audition it against. However, I did try a few amps that were roughly twice the price. I could hear a difference between the reference line in Marantz and the PM7000, but to me it was not even close to 500 dollars worth. I have the amp set up with a Sony CA 80ES cd player, NHT Superones, AudioQuest type 4 speaker wire, and 50$ Audioquest ICs (I think they are copperheads, but I'm not certain).
My first impression of the amp is great, I'm hearing new instruments in songs I thought I knew well. I was using a high end Kenwood Home Theater amp before this with the same set up. It has made a phenominal differenct, and the PM7000 isn't even broken in yet.

Strength:

NEUTRAL sound, transparent; good power reserve; dynamics & detail; accurate bass; performance/price ratio

Weakness:

none found (for the price)

This is really very good piece of equipment with very good build. Whenever I listen to classical or instrumental music, folk or rock this amp plays it with ease. A word that can best describe this machine is NEUTRALITY: nothing is above, nothing is bellow, nothing stands out. Sound coming from this "tank" is smooth, transparent and detailed. Second strength I would like to mention is deep and wide spacious presence, barely seen in this price range.

You can buy this amp with black or gold color.
Marantz recommends to use this equipment with min 8 Ohm speakers, but I had no problem driving my 4 Ohm German speakers.
You can drive 2 pairs of speakers, each pair separately or both pairs together (no problem driving 2 rooms).
PM-7000 comes with system remote control (but not learning). You may use remote to switch between sources to play and control all other Marantz equipment (CD players, recorders MD, tapes, tuner or AUX1, AUX2 equipment).

Equipment used during testing:
Marantz PM-7000
Marantz CD-6000 OSE
Schneider 3-way speakers (German speakers, 10 years old)
Sennheiser HD-590 Prestige headphones
Koss Porta Pro headphones

I think this amp is worth every penny and for its performance/price ratio it's a bargain.
Five stars indeed.

Strength:

Detail. Power!!!

Weakness:

Too neutral? Is that a weakness?

Interesting to read the previous reviews. They are exactly opposite of each other. I suspect that the strength of this amp is that it's rather neutral in character and whatever strengths and weaknesses the speakers and source has will be accurately rendered, for better or worse, by the amp. I have the PM7000 connected to Infinity RS-10's with a cheap Sony five CD changer and the sound that I hear coming out the end of the system is entirely satifactory... rather enjoyable actually. Very clear mids and highs and floor shaking bass. The only thing is the soundstage which seems a bit narrow (although rendered with great detail and accuracy) but don't know what the source of that is.
