I've owned SS state Macs in the past but the ma6600 is all that and a bag of chips. It has a solid tight 3d soundstage and handles bass exceptionally well - not boomy or sloppy but with confidence and precision. It is quick and musical. The thing is built like a tank and the LED lights are a huge improvement over the bulbs used in the past. Coming it at 200wpc makes it a force to reckoned with. I've never had it over 20 watts and even that was LOUD. Not to mention it's a a piece of American art. No amp aesthetically comes close in my opinion. I love love love this machine. Thank you dude who sold it to me in el paso Texas. I couldn't be happier.

good performance.

It´s a bit on the modern bright light side. (a tiny bit cheap in design, power, and sound)

You can hear that it´s still the good classic Mcintosh transistor sound, but it gets a bit too stressed at high volumes, and thats with still the mcd500 which is superbly soft and perfect.
(this is only for semi serious Mcintosh people)
If you want alot more control and tube retro coolness, where you can listen too much higher volumes then take the ma6900. (alot more powerful and composed, but also more conservative)
I find that the ma6900 has signaficantly more slam, and that the 6600 version is only for people who play at low volume with cobber cables.

sound description:
light with still some good slam and texture, good midrange and slightly stressed top compared to 6900.
Still has the authentic mcintosh sound. (and still 2x better than ma6300)
and of course the traditional mcintosh "edge" sound

Happy 1st Anniversary to my MA 6600. Much thanks to the guys at World Wide Stereo. It have been a year of not be able to wait to get home to once again listen to music through this Awesome!... integrated amp. From build quality to the very useful features and the awesome sound this is really a wonderful addition to my system. Having as many inputs allows even some seldom used gear to be at the ready. The excellent headphone input allows for private and use with the speakers powered. LP's sing anew with the phono input.

Every source into the MA 6600 sounds better than before. I prefer this even oven my tube integrated amp. The sound stage is wider and deeper. It is as if the walls in the room have be pushed farther out. Music is accurate but not sterile. I can listen for hours on end without fatigue.

Much is made of the beauty of McIntosh gear with the blue meters. They are fun to see but even the controls have a nice feel and ease of use. The large size of the buttons and knobs accompanied by the lighted indicators add to ease of use in dim light. Electronic tone and trim controls just add to the value of the unity. For years I have been put off by the cost of McIntosh gear. In fact for some 30 years I have desired it but did not want to spend money. It of course is not inexpensive, but when compared to other high end makes not so very so. The saying " the quality is remembered, long after the price is forgotten " rings so very true. I only wish I purchased McIntosh components sooner. Pride of ownership abounds with this Made In the USA premium performer.

This is the nicest reasonably priced integrated amp I have heard yet. I auditioned it at a wonderful shop in Victoria B.C.(Sound Hounds, thanks guys) and was immediately impressed with the power and clarity it was able to deliver to a variety of speakers. They made budget B&W speakers sound good, and made high end B&W sound wonderful. It has restored my faith in vinyl with it's fantastic phono input stage. I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for a flexible powerful integrated amplifier. This amp is a keeper and well worth the money spent.
