Great integrated amplifier. I owned a cheap reciever (Dolby Surround etc.), and sold it and got the NAD 314.
Boy, was there an improvement. The music just sounded so real and the dynamics is unbelievable (at 35 watts it's shocking!!). But the downside was that it didn't have a remote (strange considering it being in modern times) and a sub out. Also its appearance doesn't at all match with my rest Japanese components, which is why I am considering getting all NAD.

But overall sacrifices were made by NAD to make this a great SOUNDING budget audiophile integrtaed amp, and it is.

Strength:

price is little for the big quality

Weakness:

you can't impress people who don't really listen to music...

The NAD314 and a pair of AKG-headphones helped me trough a period of long illness: all kinds of music came to live,
so did I. I hope that the people of NAD never change their
minds about making the really good stuff affordable!
Forget all about that 2x35 watt, in real live it's far
much more (I measured 2x49 watt rms/4ohm) and this amp
has not any problem with te speakers I'm using (self-build
3-way system with speakers from Roselson+Seas). We tried
de amp.also on a pair of Bonsay Ideal SE (germany) speakers,
it was really a new musical experience: the voice of Bruce
Springsteen came into the listening room, not longer from
two sides, but simply from everywhere. Splendid.
I normally use a cd-player from Sony (cd300) with the NAD314. They love each other, and so do I.
PS: I listen to every kind of music: Bach to Zap Mama...

I have lived in 4 different countries since high school graduation and have been audiophile since then. My first Hi-Fi system was a B & O. It looks great and sounds, you know. I have own numerous equipments including the famous 3020a.Lately, I have read and heard too much great thing about the NAD 502 and 304 and I cannot resist the temptation to hear them because I am always looking for good value equipment to recommend to freinds and relative. The NAD dealer also is B & W dealer. They use 512, the 502 replacement, 304 and a pair of B & W 604s for demo. Result is, I have headache after 5 minutes. There is just too much bass and no detail, I feel like there is a hammer hitting my brain every time there is a drum kick. The sound is just too colour and the bass is too boomy. I cannot listened to the system longer than 15 minute and I thought they are a good Mid-Fi system and cannot rate as Hi-Fi. Rating, 0-1 star. The NAD 3020a is still lthe best sounding NAD amplifier.

I had a dream and dream became a true when I bought NAD 3l4. "Blonde on Blonde""Sgt.Pepper" and "Let It Bleed" sound better on NAD than on any other amplifier
including those from l,000 to 2,000 DEM.I recommend Stereophile to give 314
B class.
Sincerely yours

Strength:

quite natural midrange,phono-stage,bi-wire,

Weakness:

see the summary,no remote control

I used this amp with B&W 601s2 speakers and Technics SL-PS50 cd player.
The range of the amp is cut off from both highs and lows side.
Bass doesn't go too low .Actually you feel as if you're missing an important part of the range. The result is that sound lacks dynamics and is not BIG (if you know what I mean). But the real problem is that the exposed midrange is messy. When you have many insruments playing at the same time ,you can hardly locate them on the soundstage and the sound becomes chaotic and agressive.Because the midrange is pushed forward single female voices are pretty natural (e.g. Diana Krall) but when it comes to male voices they may seem thin ( Mark Knopfler).
I must say that I haven't used this amp with floor-standers. Maybe if you paired NAD 314 with high quality floor-standing speakers they would compensate overexposed midrange and the lack of bass and .I think that it would be a perfect setup for the amp.
I replaced 314 with NAD C320.The latter much better fits my B&W book-shelf speakers.Bass goes deeper ,midrange is not annoying and is very natural and soundstaging is pretty good as for the price. The general impression on C320 is that it's more laid-back comparing to 314 (still it doesn't sound like those japanese machines with boomy bass, exagerated highs and the hole in the mids).
If you use small budget speakers choose a C320,
if you use floor-standers give a 314 a try.
Generally I think that it'a very interesting amp with its own characteristic sound but it takes time to pair it with fitting speakers and source.

Strength:

Affordable price, very reliable and surprisingly powerful

Weakness:

no remote

I have had the NAD for about 3 1/2 years and It's an awesome amp for the money, I have a rega planet cd player, and paradigm reference "studio 60's" speakers, and the nad is the only component that didn't break on me("and it's the cheapest"). I love it, I'm so used to the power that i know i'll have to spend alot more money, for another amp with better sound and the same level of power that lives upto the NAD. I would recommend a NAD amp to anyone looking for a great "dynamic" sounding amp, for a low price.

Strength:

Clear midrange and highs, no noise

Weakness:

Lack of base

Having lived with my 314 for several years now, I still like it quite a bit. Its a very clear sounding unit. However it lacks base. In agreement with the previous poster, I think some nice floor standing speakers is what the 314 would be well matched for. Bookshelf speakers tend to sound rather shrill. Whereas my other 50watt amp gives the same bookshelf speakers much more low end, the 314 is probably cleaner.

Haven't found yet!

This is a review for the NAD 314 Integrated Amplifier. I have this unit for about 3 months now, and ever then I am exploring music every day. First say this, I am not an audiophile, but I have the same interest of music as the other music critics do. Eventually, I was looking for a replacement of my Kenwood Amplifier, which was about 15-20 years old. I was shopping around for a quality Amplifier with 400-500 dollar price range. I auditioned several hi-end amps, including Marantz, Rotel, and Denon. All sounded good, but little bit pricey than I was expecting. Plus, I needed PHONO input. So, I had to pick two – Marantz, and Denon. Then, I found this NAD 314 at a local Hi-Fi Audio shop, returned by customer. I looked the review at Audioreview.com, and decided to go for a test listening. My first impression was great. After much bargaining, I got this puppy for $250 USD. That’s a deal! I hooked this one with my B&W 602 S2 Bookshelf and that rocks. I played my several favorites all day, and just exploring every details of those tones I never heard before. I did some placement with the speaker plus bi-wired the speaker with Monster cable. That opened up more clarity for sound stage.

Even with moderate 35-watt output, it handles the B&W quite well. Even with Marantz 80 watt was as much output as the NAD can produce. To me, the NAD soft clipping, I think, is better to avoid. ‘Cause this can cut off the high-end frequency if you listen Jazz/classical. (that my opinion, I mostly listen to New Age/Progressive New Rock/Adult Alternative) To me, it’s better off using a highly efficient Speaker with the NAD. Forget about the wattage output at the technical specs. I even hooked up 314 with power-hog AMPEX speaker I had. This puppy handled those at ease. And be careful about the tone control for the NAD. It can substantially increase the low and high frequency to an extend. I often listen with tone control – that sounds much better with natural tone. And, one point I should mention with the Phono input, this one has much better output than most other amplifier I listened to previously.

One adjustment I made with the NAD 314 is change the original jumper pins to Monster 400MKII 0.5m RCA interconnect. That one improved the sound quality ten times. I had read reviews regarding that previously, but after listening to my ear, I can tell about this and a must recommendation for anybody.

Overall, NAD 314 is satisfactory, and especially with the price I paid for. I am thinking about replacing my five years old Sony CD player with a new one, probably Sony ES series single tray. If you have a chance to listen to any NAD series, I will recommend you to listen to it before toss it out.

My systems include:
NAD 314
Sony CDP-311 CD player
Technics SL-D2 turntable
B&W DM602 S2 Bookshelf
Monster XP speaker cable
Monster 400MKII RCA connectors

I have been listening to the nad 304 for about six months now. It is such a nice amp and works beautifully with the pair of b&w 601's and a marantz cd67 disk player hooked up to it. For the times when it's nice to have a little extra umph in the low range there is also an m&k v125 subwoofer to take up where the 601's leave off. This has proven to be one great system for under $1700.00.I would recommend the 304 or it's reincarnation the 314 to anyone looking for quality and performance in this price range.
