This amp is my first step up into "higher-fidelity", replacing an old Onkyo 100/w ch. receiver. I think this amp is great. I cannot compare it to anything else; I did not audition anything. I simply needed a decent amp at a decent price. I read reviews of other NAD gear, listened to what other people thought of NAD, found a good source to buy it from and did! The rest of my system is Paradigm Studio 60's, Paradigm PW-2200 sub, and AH! Tjoeb 99' cd player. With this comination, I now have a very natural, smooth, dynamic, great sounding system. One of the things I really like about NAD is their simplicity. Just like the ad for this amp says: Pure & Simple. If you need a good quality unit at a great price, this may be perfect for you. I believe it is for me! Enjoy the music folks! |

Looks a little cheap Where do I begin with this amp? I couldn't be happier. At 80watts a side this amp has a lot more power than other amps in it's price range. Most are only 50. Add to that that the peak power is very high and you have an amp that can really drive your speakers (NHT Super Two's). The detail and separation of the music is outstanding. I get great bass out of this beast, nice and fast. And the highs are crisp and never harsh. Combined with my Rotel RCD 971 the music comes out as it was recorded. I suddenly am able to recognize well produced albums, becuase of the accuracy of this system. NAD lists this box at 750 bucks. I got mine from QAUDIO.COM (awesome dealer) for under 600. I came from a very low fi system, so I must admit my ears are not accustomed to this kind of quality, but I spent countless hours in showrooms listening to equipment and I believe that this is the best amp in this price range. It can be bridged to offer 240 watts mono. That leaves room for some pretty awesome upgrades. Stereophile puts the amp part of this unit (the NAD 217) on thier recommended budget component list. Strength:
Good clean, smooth, non-offensive musical sound
Weakness:
A poor imitation of the NAD 319 I do not own the C-317, my close friend Jerry in Anaheim CA does, and I have had ample opportunity to get to know this product. In a word, "It Ain't bad" for the buck. I would even purchase one if I had not listened to the NAD C-319 while in London. It has more power, definition, and control. In short it's the NAD to own, BUT we can't purchase one here in North America, because those creeps in Canada who bought out NAD, say so. I spoke with several "NAD" people and they, to a person dropped the corporate load of" Bull" on me saying what they chose for us little ones here in North America is good enough, we should buy it and shut up. The fact their other markets have this choice and its unfair we do not, dosen't phase them. I will not buy from a corporation that treats me like a step-child.
