Strength:

Musical. TIght bass.

Weakness:

Shril highes, Thin sound,

Ok i was little euphoric when i wrote my first review. Now that i'm a little calmer and hopefully more objective, i must add a bit to my original review.

Over a few week I've own this. I don't believe in "break-in" lie when it comes to electronics. Speakers on the other hand is a different story.

Let's get right to the meat. DO NOT pair it with paradigm Monitor series speakers. Thought C340 has adequet power to drive my monitor 7, the combo produces some painful trebles. Bass is fine. Midrange is a bit forward = could be the speakers. I went to my friend's house. He bought Monitor 7's just like i told'em to but instead of C340 he bought parasound H1500 and preamp. That combo sounds way better.

To sum it up. C340 sounds thin, harsh and lacks detail. FOr $312 it maybe good deal to some but I should of looked into used market. I've seen some good used parasound h1500 goes as low as 500 bucks.

DO NOT pair NAD C340 with Paradigm Monitor 7's!!!!

Strength:

musical and dynamic

Weakness:

remote, plastic controls, moderate quality binding posts,
but for the price, none.

After reading countless accolades from professional reviews and playing with the amp in the store, I bought the C340 with great enthusiam.

I swithced out the supplied jumpers with some interconnects and switched it on to warm up. I put in MMW's "Tonic" and took the C340 for a test drive.

What a blast! The amp has punch and speed, very musical. The midrange opened up and details came through naturally. The NAD made my Yamaha seem hazy and slow in comparison. Track after track, the NAD showed its enthusiam for the music.

The amp also showed no sign of strain. I had it turned to 12 o'clock and it ramped out each note smoothly and quickly.
"Cool under pressure" as one reviewer noted.

This review is, of course, generated from my own set-up so results may vary and of course there are better amps, but the philosophy and musical qualities that NAD has brought to this product is very admirable.

My system:

NAD C340 int. amp
Sony CA80ES cd player
Nordost "Black Knight" interconnects
Wharfedale Sapphire Speakers-biwired
DIY braided CAT5 cables

For the pricepoint of this product, I give the C340 a 5 star rating.

After much research, price comparison, and all around fretting, I decided to build my system around the NAD C340 integrated amplifier. I am extremely satisfied with it and I don't think I could have done better at this price point. Complaints? The tone controls don't seem to do much at all. I don't feel the need to use them, but I do wonder what the point is of including them. And there's no power on the remote.

My complete (budget/entry-level) set-up:

NAD C340 Integrated Amplifier
Denon DCM-370 CD Carousel
Acoustic Research AR17 Speakers
MIT Terminator 4 Speaker Cables
MIT Terminator 2 Interconnect Cables

The sound coming out of this thing is amazing and I still have money left over for speaker stands. Cool.

Strength:

Everything - Top notch

Weakness:

The looks - but that's being harsh

The Nad c340 is what can be described as the amp ideal for nearly any system and for use with nearly any components - it's not fussy at all which makes it such a great little 50W amp. That's all well & good but what about the sound? well, simply fantastic!! I use it with a pair of mission 771's and the setup rocks with all music.
*** This Amp I highly reccommend***

P.S Look out for the new C350 set to replace the C340 - It may pay to go to NAD's web site and check it out.

Strength:

Incredible sound, upgradable, 2 Tape loops, simplicity, build, and above all PRICE!!

Weakness:

None so far.

I am just in awe over this product. For $300 SHIPPED it is simply amazing. After reading all of the good review in Stereophile, What HiFi?, and Audio I checked out the reviews here, not much different. The sound quality of this thing impresses everyone I've let hear it. It presents a very clean, detailed sound with good soundstaging and dynamics. It's got an extremely well defined low end with lots of weight to it (I knew I'd get that 35Hz out of my SuperTwo's). I've had it less than a month but I just felt compelled to review this thing now. I'm listening to my music again, not the components.

Strength:

Amazingly clear sound quality, very powerful (for my taste, anyway)

Weakness:

Just a minor point - the remote control is quite useless - but this is not why one would want to own this amp, anyway!

Beautiful, clear, natural sound with a nice bass - I have it coupled with a pair of Sonus Faber Concerto speakers and a Yamaha CD575 player. I mostly listen to classical music and jazz, so this combination is ideal - the system sounds like the orchestra/band is right in the room, and you can hear every single instrument. Madonna sounds beautiful, as well.

I tried the same combination with two Rotel amps (35 Wt and 100 WT/Channel) - both sounded very good, producing a clear and crisp sound, but with the C340, my music suddenly found another dimension - more warmth, depth, and detail, perhaps (I don't really speak the lingo, but have rather well trained ears).

At home, I turn the volume up to the 2nd notch from the minimum on the volume control - and it is plenty loud - the amazing part is that when the volume is parctically at the minimum, you can still hear the same detail - I guess the speakers are responsible for this more than the amplifier, but the C340 should definitely take part of the credit.

Overall, NAD C340 produces beautiful sound - amazing quality for the price.

Strength:

Dynamics, bass, detail

Weakness:

none worth noting

Before purchasing the C340 I went to many different stores and auditioned it until I was confident that I would be happy with it. After some searching, I found the best price to be at www.audiolab.com. After quick shipping i received my NAD double boxed. When I first plugged in the NAD, I was really blown away at the dynamics and the solid bass. At first, I was worried about the 50 watt rating being unable to power my NHT's(sensitivity of 86db) to satisfying levels. I soon realized that I would never feel the need for more power from my amp. Apparently NAD rates their amplifiers very conservatively. As opposed to Sony or Aiwa which would rate the NAD at atleast 350 watts. I found that the mids and highs which were already much cleaner than with my previous Sony reciever got even better after a few days of steady break in. Mids and vocals are clean and the highs are also very detailed. Imaging also took a giant leap forward. The bass is very deep and well-defined. At times I found that the highs can be somewhat shrill at loud levels. One thing that really bothers me about the c340 is the remote. Although the buttons are pretty much where they should be, the remote has to be pointed directly at the sensor for anything to happen. With that said, I don't think that you are going to find a better value in an integrated amplifier in this price range. A great buy for any entry-level audiophile.

When I bought a pair of Kef cresta 2's I listened to them threw a C320 amplifier and compared the kef's with rivals from mission, B&W, Magnat etc. B&W speakers sound dull on a NAD amplifier, if you own B&W speakers you'd better buy youself an sony ES amplifier, the sound of B&w is much more agressive and so is het sony! Mission speakers also sound well on NAD amplifiers, but on the extreme edges the Kef's just beat them easily!
When i compared the NAD c320 to the rotel, sony, yamaha and marantz i found out that they don't differ that much at all.
The c320 sounded the very best but differed not much from the sony ES-amplifier and so for the Marantz and Rotel.
But when I compared the C320 to the C340 I found out the c340 was a differ between day and night, where the vocals of dire straits'you and your friend sound a liitle bit far away the c340 produces the vocals directlier.
I suppose at this priceclass you can't find a better integrated!
