Strength:

Looks, decent sound-quality, price

Weakness:

Unit sounds not natural, is cheap in use. And broke 3 times within a year!!

When I wrote my first review about the C340 I was no audiophile at all. I was really excited about the musicality in comparasation to my earlier systems (cheap sony''s etc). I think that most (positive) reviews on this site are from people who don''t have expierence with real-hifi. But don''t get me wrong, I am not the person who says a good amp must cost $$$$$. I honestly think that the C340 isn''t a great amp, even for the money. At first the potentionmeters and source switches feel very cheap and are not selective at all. The sound is acceptable but is absolutely not neutral, the treble is harsh the midrange sounds a little bit forward and the bass is thin. The timing is also very, very bad. Listen to a decent valve or quality solid-state, and you''ll notice. There are also many people who say that the C340 has excellent value, I totally disagree! I think the C340 is expensive cause it''s doesn''t offer long-term satisfaction. When you''re serious about music this isn''t the amp to own, and I will guarantee you that you will sell the unit within a year when you listen to real audio- systems. But don''t swallow what I tell you and go listen for yourself. You might even buy the unit which in you opinion, sounds wonderful... More fool you

Strength:

Superb sound

Weakness:

The Headphones and the Speakers can't be connected at the same time

If you want that your amp had a a lot of buttons and lights, with billions of options this is not an amp for you. But if your are looking for a great sound at a moderate price, then this is your amp.
But there are two fails in this amp: the first is that you can't turn off (or turn on) the amp with the remote control (not a big problem, I know). And there's another thing, when you connect your headphones to the amp the speakers are disconnected automaticly, and this is a little thing that may be quite inmportant sometimes.
I payed for it 355 €, and considering the quality of the sound, I think the best rating is 4,5.

Strength:

Unbeatable bang for the buck

Weakness:

One word "plastic"

I don't usually paticipate in this type of forum, but the C340 is such a good amp that I felt compelled. Better soundstaging and detail than the Rotel. Believe it or not, this amp is better sounding than a $2000 Cary Integrated I used to own.The C340 is one of those amps that will have you rambling about to whoever will listen.

The NAD C340 is my first exploration into the world of hi-fi. I have coupled it with an ancient Marantz Cd player - the CD-44, and some VAF dc-x floorstanding speakers. To put it mildly, the system as it is has excelled my expectations. The 50W rating is more than enough to drive the 10-200 Watt speakers with the most detailed sound i've ever heard in my own living room. The tone controls are definitely useful for spicing up those ill-produced recordings, or even adding doof to your doof. The only beef i have with the unit is with it's remote control - NAD components have such a nice design but when it comes to their remotes i'm not too impressed with the undefind layout and buttons. But that is besides the point as when you buy a NAD you get THE highest quality for THE lowest price. Looking forward to adding the C540.....

Strength:

Tight, punchy and confident sound.

Weakness:

Can have a bit of a lack of detail at quite low volumes. Dodgy remote.

I upgraded to this amp from the Cambridge A3i, which I found didn't push my speakers enough (B&W 602s) and lacked bass (though this might not be the amps' fault, my room's got wooden floorboards). This amp was a great choice, I think. More controlled bass, and just a sound that is quite bright but not fatigue-inducing. You just want to push the amp as loud as it can go everytime. Remote is dodgy and has stopped working in the past, but I don't need it that much anyway.

B&W 602 speakers

Strength:

Unbeatable performa for the price

Weakness:

Need turn/off button one remote

I don't own it..but I auditioned it. All review already mentioned its strength and weakness, need not to give one.

For the price, it is arguably one of the best "entry level" integrated amplifier in the market. This amp can cope with virtually any speaker with any load.

Cheers

First of all, readers should be aware that my only source of comparison is much more expensive separates. That said, I found the bass and midrange of the C340 to be more than solid. The bass went down deep and was tight and quick (all the audiophile superlatives). The midrange was essentially correct. My consternation was the lack of jump factor. The dynamics seemed reined in compared to the more expensive stuff. The treble wasn't as extended as I'd like, cymbals sounding too much like spray cans. On the other hand, other HF sounds were enjoyable, it was just cymbals I had trouble with. The nicest thing about this is that one would have had to endure layers and layers of grain 3 years ago if they spent this kind of money. The NAD is mostly grain free. Anyone used to mass market stuff is going to go ape s**t over this product. With NAD around, there is not reason to buy cheap hi-fi. No, it isn't the best but I've heard nothing in its price range that is as good an all-rounder as this. If you value bass, this is your baby.

Strength:

Good clean sound

Weakness:

lack of dual output (headphone and speakers)

After hearing all of the hype about NAD products, I decided to buy the NAD C340 based on the recommendations here and on a good buying mood one day.

I was pleasantly surprised. The sound is MUCH cleaner, more pure, and much more detailed than my Onkyo TX-902, which claims to have the same wattage. I listen through Infinity Reference One's and found myself marvelling over the improvement in sound. It's as if I had purchased new speakers to go with my new amp.

In the same way that the Onkyo TX-902 50-watt sounds better than my wife's Kenwood 80-watt, this NAD C340 sounds one order of magnitude better than the Onkyo.

There are more inputs on this amp than my old Onkyo, so that's a plus, too.

Ah, but enough of the praise. Here's the one fatal flaw in the design. Once you plug your headphones into the headphone jack, the sound through the speakers cuts out! On my Onkyo, I can cut the sound in or out via speaker selector buttons on the front panel. I use my amps for reference monitoring in my project studio and having the sound go through both targets at once is a plus for me.

Another possible bug-me-to-death flaw is the tone controls are next to useless. They are too subtle. There may be applications where I would want to juice the bass (such as a dance party in my apartment).

Good reference CD's to test this amp with: Herbie Hancock "Headhunters", The Best of Fleetwood Mac.

Strength:

bass, strong 50W

Weakness:

buttons on remote occasionally stick

I listened to various receivers from HK, Sony, Denon and Yamaha and it was immediately clear that the NAD was a cut above the rest. Compared to other products in the same price range the NAD C340 was a steal.
