Strength:
Right price 4 ohm speaker taps clean sound
Weakness:
no line out (minor for me) No phono preamp (also Minor for me) After losing my McIntosh tube amp back in the 60's and everything went digital I've wanted to get back into tubes but everything looked very pricey. I came across the Primaluna Prologue One Amp being sold by Upscale Audio that seemed like a good place to start. At first I wasn't sure if I was hearing any improvement over SS until I put on a LP that I coudn't decided to keep or give to Goodwill. "Wow" It was like I had never heard this record before. The Brass had a much fuller sound and the cymbals had more zing. This record is now a definite keeper. Now that I have played many Lps and cd thru this amp I am pleased with the sound. The one selling feature for me was the 4 ohm speaker taps that I needed for my Magnapan speakers, a feature that a lot of amps didn't have. There are four inputs a volume control and 4 & 8 ohn speaker taps. The speaker terminals are large, solid and easy to use. To keep cost down the amp doesn't have any line (record) out which would have been nice. Bass is solid and the highs clean. I don't think you can find a better amp for the price if you want to get into the tube world. The purchase from Upscale Audio was a pleasent experience.
