a followup to my review just below, i found out the hum was caused by other components underneeth/above it. allthough this is because of the amp. witch almoust works like an antenna taking in hiss and hums from many sources/cables unless they have som space between.
i noticed when i touch the rca cables i can actually hear distortion from the speakers. but only when the volume have gone halfway.
im gonne get a more expensive rca cable and find out if it helps.
also, its anoying that there are no relay`s between inputs, since u can easely hear music from ex. the cd input if u switch too aux1, but also here only when volume is more than half. this is the same on all inputs. the longer distance it is between the inputs, the less u hear thou.
why couldnt they just use 1 relay on like the gold plated cd input?

Strength:

cheap, VERY musical, short in highth, great low volume dynamics, VERY musical

Weakness:

discontinued, no remote

My HT system was powered by a Sony 90 ES HT receiver. The B speaker outputs were fed to an Adcom switcher for Deck and kitchen speakers. I replaced the Sony ES receiver with a Marantz SR18 last january . It had no remote speaker outputs. I bought this Rotel 971 because it would fit in my equipment cabinet due to its low profile and cheap price. My kitchen Boston Acoustic in-walls never sounded better. The Voyager deck speakers have life and bass like never before. WOW!!!!

I can recommend this amp for those on a budget,as I have owned one,and found it quite pleasant to listen to for extended periods, unlike many competitors in the price range.Needs good preamp up front though(as all systems do).Be happy, then save money and go for one of the biggies!

Strength:

Clean fast amp with power to spare. Price and build.

Weakness:

On the thin side but most amps are in this price range.

Paired with the right equipment, the amp really shines. Suprisingly deep and wide soundstage with the Energy C4s. As for my front end, I'm using NAD's new 520 cd player with Kimber PBJs. The NAD produces an amazing amount of detail, enough to give the listerner insight into the music. Overall, the system is somewhat on the lean side but still very musical. I'm totally blown away at how much performance one can achieve with so little money these days. Sure, the RA971 won't sound like the esoteric amps but at the price, it's a no brainer.

Strength:

sounds powerfull, detailed

Weakness:

no remote, terminals only take bananas or spades, a little harsh at loud volumes. hiss.

i was very surprised when i received the amp and noticed that i had to use banana plugs to connect the speakers (!). what is that all about?!
and was a bit dissapointed when i heaerd a 50hz buzz when "tone" is turned on. even if volume is at zero. also thru headphones. also with tone off but then only at loud volumes.
and if it only came with a tiny remote to adjust volume. the design shows that rotel is starting to get a little old-fashioned.
but it scores high on the moust important thing, sound quality. only it can sound a LITTLE harsh at loud volumes.

This amplifier was the last item I purchased in my attempt to upgrade my stereo system. I couldn't believe the difference that this amplifier made to my system, right after I took it out of the box the soundstage opened up and the bass was much tighter and more responsive. It paired perfectly with the rest of my system: Def Tech BP6B speakers, Cambridge Audio CD4-SE Cd Player, and DH Labs T-14 Silver Sonic cable.
