Strength:
Extremly quiet operation. Very neutral and transparent. Solid build with expensive parts.
Weakness:
No remote. No doubt this is an audio enthusiast's dream come true of owning an audiophile grade and quality component without shelling out an exhorbant amount of money for it. I paid around $800 for it new, almost 9 years ago, so unless you come across one used, it wasn't that cheap. Similar pre-amps now a days are upwards of $900, solid state or tube. Adcom used the best components for this pre-amp and even 9 years ago it won exceptional reviews from audiophiles. In my humble opinion, adding a good turntable to this preamp and coupling it with a nice amp and speakers would suffice for a lot of us poor folks. I had a friend of mine who owns an audio store come and review this setup with reference recordings he uses to sell high end equipment and the subtelties and nuances he was looking to hear came out just as well with this preamp. No doubt bypass is the way to go although this preamp also offers a 'lab' phase that bypasses tonal controls with the exception of the loudness contour. All in all, an audiophile quality product from a very well respected company. Similar Products Used: NAD Integrated Amplifier |

Strength:
Sounds like it isn't there.
Weakness:
No remote. I have a single play Marantz CDPlayer Limited Edition so I have to get up to change the CDs anyway. best run straight without the doodads and bells and whistles like treble bass etc. If you can get one for $300 you will never be disappointed. Hell a Radio Shack receiver costs $300. Buy your equipment second hand and know who you are buying it from as in how it was used and how long etc. I use it with the 565 mono blocks and a pair of Dahlquist DQ20s. My next stereo upgrade will probably be in about 2020 when my speakers can no longer be reconed and surrounded and my Adcom amp and preamp give up the ghost. Yeh there are better systems but for the money I got a killer system which sounds wonderful on all kinds of music. I like Jazz - Thelonius Monk, Billy Holliday, Rock - Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Hot Tuna - Classical - Mozart, Handel, Beethoven, Verdi, Wagner Blues - Bobby Blue Bland, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters etc. and it all sounds real nice. Sit back relax, fire up a doobie, close your eyes and Billy Holliday is singing "Stars fell on Alabama last night..... Similar Products Used: Martin Logan Sequel IIIs and Threshold amp preamp |

totaly agree with post below. This is a "welcome to the club" preamp available on the used market for pennies. I strongly recommend this preamp to those who still own vinyl and don't know what to do with it. Go out and buy one of the new (or even better, used hi-end) record players for a few hundred and find out about a secret that even Dr. Strangeglove would salute (I know, P. Sellers would salute a hardon kardon if it was strong-willed)! Has versatility and premium parts. Don't be a sucker just because it don't have a remote. There's better (less there) preamps around, but the rest of your gear ain't up to it so don't even look. Has more ins and outs than you can shake a stick at, including full bypass (that's the one to use). At this price, it's the best of the best. Got mine for $275 with box and manual. Next step? McCormack / Conrad Johnson / ARC on used market. Spend your money elsewhere, better wire (fatwyre.com demo's good wire for your system) Ops, sold my Adcom GFP 565 for $100 and bought an even less functional ARC tubed pre-amp. My, my, my. You're system's not up to it yet though. If you're looking here, look no further. |

Simply the best Pre-Amp I've ever heard... or not "heard". |

A preamplifier has three jobs to do; drive the power amplifier, handle the necessary switching, and be QUIET. The 565 does the first two just fine, and is as near silent as I have ever heard. Even one of the snobs at Stereophile said this preamp is equal to the best preamps he has ever heard at ANY price, with the best phono section he had ever not listened to (now that's quiet). Street price new was $675.00 (list $895.00), but is out of production. If you can find one on the secondary market, grab it. There may still be some in retail shops, and if so, they will be a steal. |

Price vs. performance
Weakness:
No balance in or out Just had this GFP565 modified, the difference was much more detail which was percieved as being cleaner and clearer. I believe in this state it would do battle with a lot of units costing a lot more. replaced the op-amps and the LT1010 buffer. All the detail gets through now without being darkened. Phono section left alone. In comparison to the 750 it is just as detailed but not quite as warm. 565 does not sound dry or sterile, what a heck of a pre-amp for the money. To be honest I need to do more comparisons with the 750 to be more descriptive but definately better than it was. I am going to take a shot at it because one other post was deleted when I posted something like this, I guess your not suppose to advertise which I am not, just shareing imformation that I believe to be helpful so we will see. I can honestly say that I was excited about how good it sounded. You can contact Stan at 541 344 3696. PS. these op amps are just little things but adcom calls them the heart of the pre amp. amazing what IC's can do. IN my opinion a good IC based op amp is better than a mediocre discrete pre amp. Enough said......for now. Similar Products Used: GFP750 |

I bought my GFA 565 used one year ago for $300 US. Even at retail price this preamp is a bargain. I auditioned several high-end preamps before getting this Adcom, and my wife vetoed them all. Those included such illustrious names as McIntosh, McCormack, and Classe. (She vetoed the Classe only because of the price.) This Adcom is one of the few preamps I have heard that actually sounds better than connecting my Marantz CD 63 directly into the amplifier (Adcom GFA 5400). You can spend more for a premp, but if you think you're getting better sound for the money you're fooling youself. This is the best preamp bargain on the market, espeially used. |
