Strength:

State-of-the-art user interface and metal remote

Weakness:

Not involving as the othter BAT product

I bought this unit brand new about a year ago, quite frankly, I am not satisfied with the performance. It is good but I did expect a lot more from BAT especially I owned the VK3i before(which can't be beat at that price).
I must say it has the best user interface(can program the input, name it, adjust the relative gain etc) among the pre amp I owned to-date, even better than the Levinson I am using now. And you got the metal remote (optional) which is solidly built, Conrad Johnson and Audio Research should consider using metal remote for their pre amp for competition. If BAT can do this for $2500, why can't they?
Bottom line is, the VK20 does not sound musical to my taste, it does do well on the soundstage and overall frequency response but I just can't 'get into' the music I am listening.

Strength:

easy to use, best buy.

Weakness:

no

i own this preamp and i wouldn't trade/sell it for anything else!!! this last guy posted he a/b the vk20 against other high end preamps and they sounded better, but he doesn't talk about what amp he tried it with. these people posting negative reviews of the vk20 need to quit it. anyone who walks into a audio shop to listen to gear and then post a review here is not qualified to provide a review on the vk20 or any other component. go back to listening to your parasound, radio shack gear! the vk20 is one of the best buys i've ever made. period! anyone who says otherwise doesn't know anything about audio, or especially bat gear. i'm laughing right now because while i'm typing this review, i'm actually listening to the vk20. you negative posters of the vk20 are so envious of bat gear owners that you're always looking to slam it because you can't afford it. the previous poster john is a professional listener of gear, but i bet he doesn't own anything of his own. bat doesn't make a single component that is bad, and the vk20 is as good as you'll find for the money. if bat chose to price it for $4k it would still be worth every penny in my book! later.
