Gordon is on target with his review of the Direct. Careful matching is necessary though. I am using it with the Lightstar Two amp and found that in my setup it would not drive the amp reliably in passive mode unless the amp was switched to its high gain mode. If you can find one, try it. If it works in your system, you will not be disappointed with the sound. |

This pre-amp which was designed to the complement to the Lightstar amplifier really delivers. It can be operated in the passive mode or the active mode. The active stage is average. The sound is not as refined as in the passive mode. Passive is where it shines- the detail is exceptional and the soundstage is deep and wide. Is there a better pre-amp at this price- I doubt it. This is one sweet pre-amp. it is very transparent and the presentation is very warm. Dare I say- tube like? I previously had passive pre-amps from QED and McCormack, these pale in comparison to this marvel Try it, you'll like it. |
