Strength:
The previous reviews are of the original Solo - this is of the current (actually, recently discontinued) Arcam Solo Music, which looks quite different. There is also an Arcam Solo Movie, which is still in the catalogue and seems the same in audiophile terms. The sound of the Solo is superb (though see below), with exceptional clarity. I am using it with an Arcam rPhono MC pre-amp with a Linn Karma cartridge and am hearing things on vinyl I never have before. The DAB tuner is excellent and getting a good signal from the simple wire antenna supplied. Setting up the presets is a fiddly task - get it wrong and you'll find Radio 3 is on button 2 and button 3 brings up Radio 1. Gave up on the first day, but recovered on the second by deleting the presets one by one and starting all over again. An option to delete all presets at once would have been nice. Overall a magic bit of kit - however, see below. Weakness:
To avoid repetition, please see my 18 March 2018 review of the venerable B&W P6 speakers. On short, the Solo has a clear and bright sound but even after adjustment is a bit short of bass. A subwoofer is on the way. April 14 2018 update. A Cambridge Audio Minx x200 subwoofer from eBay at £102 has made a great difference once tuned to the speakers - the sound now has a solid underpinning. The convenience of being able to browse one's entire music library over Bluetooth via an ipad is entrancing, though the sound loses a little depth. There are no tone controls on the Solo, but I discovered a balance control deep in the audio menus which has made a big difference. Even more highly recommended. Price Paid: £799

Strength:
fantastic sound
Weakness:
remote is a little on the large side
I previously owned an Arcam CD73 with a Rega Amp with Rega FM Tuner along with a pair of Mission 780's, (keeping it English!) ....but needed to scale down a bit due to a house move. When I heard that Arcam was basing the Solo on the CD73 and incorporating a DAB radio I jumped at the chance to audition it and was not disapointed. I ended up taking it home that day, as to be honest there is no other all in one system that can match it for sound and looks at the price.

Strength:
Clarity, warmth, soundstaging and imaging in a compromised set-up. Very good to excellent all-around performance.
Weakness:
Slow CD drawer, mushy front-panel switches After several years of enjoying a reasonably good home theater (NAD AV receiver and Energy speakers), I decided to return to a two-channel system when I reorganized my basement listening/viewing area. I now have a 32'' Sharp LCD television, Motorola cable box, and Toshiba DVD player working in tandem with an Arcam Solo and Arcam Alto speakers. The equipment all fits neatly in a corner, sitting in and on a Salamander Designs television cabinet and Sanus speaker stands.
