Strength:
Awsome sound. Lots of cool features and meters.
Weakness:
You need a beefy stand under it. I found my Sasnui 9090DB in my office. A young night shift employee's dad gave it to him. He had it hooked up to some dinky little speakers. I waved a C note under his nose and carried it home. I always wanted one as a kid and I recognized it the moment I saw it. I put it in my workshop and a Kinks song came on. I cranked it up and went in the house to grab a drink. My realistic 120 wat speakers were about 10 years old. When I got back, the cones were actually laying on the floor. |

Strength:
Power to spare. Distortion? what's that? Mic input.
Weakness:
You must use caution when playing Pink Floyd's Welcome to the machine! Things tend to fall off the walls, Hard hat recommended when playing at high levels I've always wanted a receiver like this since I was a teenager, well I FINALLY got one! This receiver and comparable ones in the 70's were just a dream to a kid. Well now that I was able to purchase one of these high end receivers,I narrowed it down to 3 choices: Marantz 2325, Pioneer SX-1250,& the Sansui 9090DB. I bought the Sansui and What a bang for the buck!!! The other receivers I had in mind were going for $500 and more. I paid $210 For the Sansui9090DB. Although I've never listened to the other receivers, I highly doubt they could offer too much more for the money. If your in the market for a vintage high end receiver and don't want to spend $500-$800 or more, I would suggest the Sansui 9090DB. I did and I'm not the least bit sorry. This beast is AWESOME!! I also like the mic input,Hey you too can be an instant rock star in your own home with this feature! I checked this receiver out on other audio websites and it is always on people's top 10 list. Buy it and enjoy! Similar Products Used: nothing similar,But I do have a Fisher RS 1015 & have owned multiple cheapo units |

Strength:
POWERFUL!!!!, elegant appearance, puts today''s run-of-the-mill black plastic receivers to shame!
Weakness:
Occasional dirty switches & lights; Need to build an entertainment center out of OLD GROWTH OAK to support this behemoth! I bought this receiver in 1990 for my 13th birthday instead of a Nintendo. DEFINITELY no regrets in making that switch! It''s been performing great since I bought it. I use a pair of home built 3-way/5-driver speakers with my 9090DB, and it gets plenty loud just at half power! Rich, warm sound with any format. I plan to keep it for many years. Cheap
Weakness:
Cannot reproduce subtleties very well. Inefficient. Power hog. Bought to use in a family room. Muddy and boomy. Fortunately, I didn''t pay very much for this dinosaur. Gave it to my kids. Similar Products Used: This is the first receiver I have ever purchased. I now am back to seperates. |

Strength:
All the power you''ll ever need, and more! A good clean sounding well built amp that has withstood the test of time.
Weakness:
None that I''ve seen in 12 years. It''s great to see so many 9090DB lovers. I lucked into mine. A friend of a friend got into a money problems about 12 years ago. It;s been rockin the Rockies ever since. It does require alot of cleaning, but I found installing a couple of fans on the sides of the stereo stand cuts down on the cleaning time. To Sam from Boca Raton, Fl.,check out classicsansui.com its a small group of Sansui audio equipment lovers. Alot of information and pic''s of Sansui equipment. Robert from Berlin may find links to afew sites for light bulbs, and other parts there also. |

POWER POWER POWER. True 130-Watt RMS Power
Weakness:
My wife knows I''m using it when the lights start to flicker in my "test room"....WOW Awsome POWER! But really just dirty pots for which I disassembled completly and cleaned eliminating future problems. I picked this one up at a repair shop where I was getting my "former" amp fixed. The actual owner turned down the repair bill. It did have several electrical problems(dirty switches, lights,...) which made it impossible to get it working right. After a handshake and some TLC, I can asure you that it will blow away your speakers if you are not carefull! I use this unit along with an AKAI GX-747 Reel, Two pairs of JBL Tower Speakers, Yamaha Cassette and a Pioneer Elite CD player. The sound comes out very clear, very strong and brings out the best of all units connected to it. Have in mind, it''s from the ''70s and in my opinion, will out-perform alot of receivers made today even several amplifiers that are probably built with "better internal components". I have used separate amps before including a Kenwood M2A with its C2 Preamp(''80s), they will not come close. A true receiver in a class by itself. Mega power dims the lights in the house, great tuner.
Weakness:
Clean pots and switches regularly. No remote control. The Sansui 9090db is the nicest sounding amp. Tons of power , sweet clarity and imaging. Connect to a pair of Klipsch LaScalas, open a window and be heard from blocks away. I love the review from the guy who pulled it from a dumpster! I tried to replace it with a Technics Surround receiver - sounded like total poop by comparison. I also have a 9090 which is just as good without the dolby, but includes a multipath meter for FM. Similar Products Used: None that compare to the fidelity and power of this unit, including pro-equipment. |

Strength:
Power, clarity, looks, features, you name it...
Weakness:
none I purchased this 9090DB new in Japan in early 1976 for $320 dollars. I also purchased 4 Sansui 5500 speakers, a Sound Shaper II equalizer, a TEAC A601-R dual cassete deck and a Pioneer turntable. I used to use a 'sound level meter' everytime I moved the speakers to adjust the equalizer but I retired the turntable (sound level meter had an accompanying record) a few years ago in favor of a CD player (and to make room on the entertainment center). We still have a smaller system with a turntable attached in case we want to play a Record. (Large vinyl disc with music on it) Similar Products Used: there are no similar products |

ROCKS! Power that still knocks my socks off after 25 years!
Weakness:
The ONLY problem I've had with this unit in 25 years has been intermittent left channel drop due to being a little dirty, but hey, you gotta do maintenance on everything at some time or other. What can I say? Those of you who have had the pleasure to experience the power of the 9090DB know what I mean when I say it ROCKS! For those of you who haven't listened to the power of the 9090DB, do it the first chance you get! I bought mine during my first WestPac deployment while in Japan. While the ship was underway for the next five months, everyday after working hours (and all day Sundays) I muscled my 9090DB up a verticle ladder (sometimes in rough seas) and set it up along with my SP-7500X speakers, Pioneer CTF-9191 cassette deck, SS-1 equalizer and Teac A3340-S open reel tape deck! It was a work out getting this stuff out and set up, but my buddies and I enjoyed rockin' the ship for hours on end! Of course they helped get the stuff out and put it away. The Sansui 9090DB receiver is without a doubt one of the best receiver's ever built, and well at that. I did drop it a couple of times, but that didn't phase it! I once blew a window out of my apartment while cranking "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East! I will NEVER part with this icon of power, because I'd be crazy if I did. I really can't say enough about this receiver, I really can't! Similar Products Used: Sansui G-9700, Marantz 2230 |

Strength:
Built in Dolby support for tape drives
Weakness:
Too heavy to move around often, plan your setup ahead ;-). Unit is all that I had been lead to believe to would be. A very nice 'flagship' Receiver from one of the many qualiy stereo manufactured in Japan in the 70s. Supports three sets of speakers and has two headphone outputs. My hobby over the last 2 years has been aquiring records and Hi-Fi equipment from thrift and charity stores. The consumer lemmings are donating their old equipment for Home Theater c*ap.This Sansui is amoung my very best finds! Now if one out there can anyone E-mail me instructions on setup and operating the Dolby tape level controls I would be most thankful.
