Strength:
The best I've ever heard for anywhere near the money!
Weakness:
It is BIG I bought this new somewhere around 1975, and it has performed flawlessly. I bought this unit because it was the only thing I could find at the time that would do justice to Pink Floyd. I have used a pair of Radio Shack Mach 1's for the "A" channel, and a pair of Fisher bookshelfs with 12" woofers for the "B" channel..also, with no problems in 25+ years. I have turned it up to about 80% a couple of times, but things start coming off the walls at that point...and the sound is still distortion free, even at those levels. I have shopped for a new setup a few times, but the only things that approach this setup start costing in the thousands, so I am staying with this jewel. I rigged the TV into the aux inputs a few years ago, and I have a home theater that rivals anything I've ever heard at the stores. If anyone is thinking about buying one of these, I would have to recommend it..even if it needs some work. A little money to restore one of these will net you a far better unit than is currently available at all but the highest end stores. |

The Sansui 9090DB is a very powerfull Receiver for people who have the time and the experience to clean it monthly from the dust. You can´t imagine the sound if you never heard it. |

Strength:
Exceptional performance, reliability, versatility,good looks.
Weakness:
Dial indicator lamps, dirt accumulation on switch contacts Judging from the reviews I've read, the Sansui 9090DB appears to be one of the greatest receivers ever created, and I can only attest to everything already mentioned. This receiver has served me faithfully for 22 years and I use it daily. Although I have also experienced minor problems with burned out light bulbs and intermittent left channel operation (due to dirty contacts in the base and treble select switches - problem corrected with spray contact cleaner and compressed air), I contend that this is the finest and most reliable piece of electronic equipment I have ever owned in my life. Several years ago I attempted to replace it with a new dolby surround receiver, but I gave it back because it couldn't come close to the performance of my Sansui receiver. The only other receiver in its class, was the top of the line from Kenwood, from the same era (I don't remember the model number). |

Strength:
I bought this thing new back in 1976, after seeing AND hearing what it could do. I knew immediately...I had to have one.
Weakness:
After 25 years, the left channel is sometimes intermittent. The place that I take it to for repairs has begged me never to get rid of it or sell it...I never will. While my beloved Sansui 9090DB has been relegated to my backup unit, for purposes of mainly more components, this has been my workhorse since I was a college freshman. Occasionally, I will hook the unit up to my four (4) Klipsch Forte II speakers and listen to some of my old time favorites...like Deep Purple...I love it! Similar Products Used: Nothing in this class...with this much power. |

Strength:
Canyons of Power, Detailed, Crisp Sound
Weakness:
Makes My Wife Mad What can I say, this is the end of the line for me as far as vintage receivers go. There is so much power, I will never turn it up past 12 oclock. Huge transformer, biggest I have seen. Very robust, clean sound. I have messed around with smaller powered receivers, and now I wonder what I had been wasting my time doing. Words can't describe how I feel about this unit, so I won't. If you are thinking about a vintage receiver, find a 9090, or 9090db. Don't waste your time on lesser powered units. If they made this unit new today, I would spend $1000 for one and be happy. Similar Products Used: None in this power class |

I had this receiver 2 years ago. After some refairs, it makes sound warm and clearn. I have 2 set of speakers, Electro Voice ( Leviton ) and Little KEF are perfect match with this old Sansui receiver. |

I've owned my 9090Db since 1983. Picked it up at a pawn shop in San Diego for $399, best money I ever spent. Love the Vu, signal strength and power meters, most newer receiver/amps don't have these anymore. This old work horse has withstood the passage of time remarkably! It still sounds great and can compete with any other receiver on the market today. Also love the three sets of speakerterminal bindings (A,B & C) which can be combined. Recently bought a new house with a gigantic family room and four bedrooms, I'm using a Pioneer VSX-455 receiver as my main surround/theatre amp, and using the Sansui to power my passive subwoofer/satellite speakers, plus drive the four sets of wall speakers in the bedrooms!! It really kicks Ass!! |

Purchased 9090DB, January 1977 for $299.00. Other than having to replace BA312 Audio Preamps once the unit has performed flawlessly for 22 years. I am driving 4 Jensen OPC 15", 4 way speaker systems at one time. |

My Oncle buy this fine Receiver at 1978 for 1.500.- Deutschmarks. He play it for 15 Years. Then he buy a Fisher Receiver (That´s no good change) - I take it from him. That´s was amazing ! - All the other Receiver was bad ! - The 9090 DB is only the best ! Really warm and powerful Sound. That the Way i like it ! He brings me the good Times back. The Times with Analog-Devices - Today is Digital - That Thing´s are bad - Analog lives on, with my great Sansui 9090 DB ! |
