This is a solid pawn store find at this point. Good quality stereo receiver with 2x100w clean power. It has almost no features, but thats not what its about.
I got this for $30 a little while ago and have had no problems with it. No background noise at normal levels, with a clean connection and decent wires.

Strength:

Really great styling, clean power output, remote control, nice bright flourecent display, analog treb and bass controls......

Weakness:

Hisses a little all the time at lower volume levels (if you have efficient tweeters)

Nothing bad to say about this little performer, lots of clean power and amazingly detailed and accurate soundstage for a cheaper receiver, I have to say I likt eh actual overall sound quality alot better than the yamaha I had costing more like 500 MSRP. 100x2 clean power, nice tuner, enough inputs for most people, little cost and really cool styling.... best bang for the buck I've seen in a long time, some revisions of this model in the later production years had really nice 10,000uf nichicon caps in the power supply section..

Strength:

Power, simplicity, clean sound.

Weakness:

No loudness control for boosting certain levels at low volumes -- a nice feature I usually look for. Tuner is nothing special.

This is a nice receiver for the money. Nothing spectacular, plain looks, lacking a few of the extras that I usually like (phono jack, loudness control), but it works. Pumps out lots of clean power. I see other reviews mentioning a hiss. I've had the thing for well over a year and I've never noticed any hiss at all.

Strength:

The power and sound quality it puts out.

Right now in my audio system, I have the STR-DE135 hooked up to 2 Sony 29" high speakers with 12" subwoofers, and a Sony CDP-CE275 5-Disc CD Changer. The receiver puts out a substantial amount of drive that I myself, enjoy thoroughly. It puts out the power I want. The 100x2 watts are fine with my needs. Even though I am only 14, I know what audio components I like, and I definately like the STR-DE135

Weakness:

The hiss.

Fine receiver, but I hear a constant hiss. It may be my speakers, but it's quit irritating.

Strength:

Much power, decent sound via cd. Best sound possible via fm.

Weakness:

No phono but thats all.

A really recommendable machine, if you are looking for decent sound and satisfying power resources for a low price ( who isn`t). Since i purchased a TA-F707ES and some excellent T&A speakers at ebay (read it`s reviews!) i use this one only as an PC-amp and to listen to my favourite fm station. But i have made some expieriences with it and what i can say about it is that it is, for the money, just the best reciever you can get. The power stage can drive even bigger speakers ( i hooked it on my T&A, which need at least 130wpc and the small sony got just a litlle warm but sounded decently ), the fm sound is perfect and the cd sound even better.

Strength:

Simple controls. Good value for the money.

Weakness:

Stupid volume control calibration. There are no numbers. But if 7 o''clock is no volume and 5 O''clock (clockwise)is maximum power...you might never get this beyond 9 o''clock and certainly never beyond 10 o''clock, unless it''s an outdoor loud party. Remote Control - assumes that this Receiver (i.e. tuner w/amplifier) will be the corner stone of a complete Sony system without abilty to learn (who cares-we won''t use the remote that much anyway).

Lots of power and clarity for the price. Low volumes can be maintained in spite of volume control (see weaknesses). Other product considered was a Yamaha RX-V396 at $250.00, just for the sake of having understandable (simple) controls. The Yamaha had a little better sound (obviously)but for the money this Sony is way more bang for the buck.

Strength:

Excellent basic power amplifier performance

This is really an excellent product at a modest price and should satisfy people who just want good sound and little of the chrome plating that isn''t really necessary. I use this receiver with Large Advents (mostly 6 ohms) and find the sound to be very smooth, due to the high rms power capability with low distortion. The capabilities of the remote are somewhat limited and there is no phono preamp; I miss the former more than the latter since I have other systems on which to play records. The radio tuner is satisfactorily sensitive (urban area; about 2'' of wire for an FM antenna). Noise level is very low.

Strength:

Good sound for the money. Lots of power!! I hooked it up to an oscilloscope and it actually pumps out 158 W/ch, not the 100 W advertised. That''s kind of amazing!

Weakness:

Lack of inputs/outputs (especially subwoofer) but, you know, it''s cheap.

This product has served me very faithfully for about a year of use. As a college student, I had some money to spend for a stereo and I ended up blowing most of it on some nice JBL speakers. I didn''t have much left over for a reciever, but I found this one for sale and I figured I may as well go for it. Although it''s not the most ideal reciever to drive nice speakers, it sounds really good. True, I can hook up any H/K or Onkyo reciever and it''ll sound much better, but you know, for being in a dorm room it sounds pretty nice. Some people complained about a lack of low bass, but I don''t seem to have that problem. I have efficient JBL speakers that have no problem reproducing bass.
