Strength:
Good value. Very good performance for an entry level cartridge. Lively and detailed sound, with decent refinement. Very tight sound. Easy to setup. Versatile and works with a wide range of tonearms. Easy upgrade -- simply swap out the stylus to move up to a higher model (all of the OM series cartridges use the same body)
Weakness:
Cannot quite convey that last hint of detail. Slightly thin in the midrange and bass. Bought the OM10 as a replacement for an old Stanton 681EE, and I was floored at how big an improvement the Ortofon made over the Stanton. The Ortofon OM10 has a very tight sound overall, and conveys a good amount of detail all the way around. For an entry level cartridge, this has a great balance between refinement, detail, and versatility. But, the OM10 only hints at what the OM line in general is capable of. I thought the OM10 was a bargain, until I upgraded to the OM20. |
