Strength:

great engineering,beautiful looking,wonderful sounding

Since GyroDec SE was set up, my CDP and DAC combo has been collecting dusts. QC is a must as others alluded. It demands high quality arm, cartridge and phonostage. Isolation devices will help greatly. (Kuzma Stogi Ref/VDH Frog/EAR 834P on BSA Airmass/BigRock2)

Strength:

very solid and full rich sound without getting dark. retains space. Essentially neutral and accurate. I'm very happy but would like to try the QC powerssupply and eventually the Orbe.

Weakness:

I feel(like others) that it could be stronger on the dynamics and rhythm.I'm having a little trouble with the motor switch sticking (anybody else??)

I think this TT is great and would recommend it based on its own (since I don't have a lot of experience with the numerous decks out there). I'm not sure yet if I prefer the Oracle sound. If I remember corectly, there's just a touch more warmth there thats not euphonic like Linn. Has anybody made a direct comparison with a Delphi to the Gyrodec or Orbe?? Also, if anybody has a SME V manual that they can scan and e-mail me that would help me tweak out my set-up.

Try the Gyro deck with the Well tempered Arm, used to have Zeta, but this is much better. Also use Koetsu rosewood Sig. Best value sound for money out there. Killer looks.

Strength:

relaxed natural sound, looks to die for(friends that see it cant stop looking)precision engineering and after sales service

Weakness:

with out qc/vc power supply could sound a little dull

I've had my Gyro for 9 months now (thanks Rachel)and i can only say that its the most satisfying component ive ever owned in fact i'd go further its one of the best things i've owned per se.
I had delivery of one of the first Gyros with the dc motor so i had to wait an extra month for the delivery of the VC power supply so i feel pretty qualified to judge the sound of the basic and VC'd Gyro.
Get the VC! there is not such a big diference as upgrading to QC from cheap supply but the sound i get is from Gyro Vc is stunning much better than the Linn Lp12 ( more dynamic )
and is well worth the extra.
The sound quality is smooth but dynamic in fact it sounds more like a high quality CD player than vinyl, the warm fluffy sound of the Linn is not present! this deck is dynamic and has imaging (soundstage) rather than soft sound
and rhythm that the Linn has,
Not that the Gyro lacks rhythm.
If you have a collection of well loved vinyl you'd be a fool not to give this product a listen, since puchasing my record purchases have gone through the roof i listen when i can,you should too!

Strength:

Everything! tight smooth bas; Open natural sound.

Weakness:

None yet

I use the SME 309 arm with ortofon Rohman, the rest of my setup is Primare Riaa; Primare A30.1 Amplifier; Martin Logan CLS.

This TT has allmost no sound of its own! It plays uncoloured, with a deepth, witch should leave competitors way behind, The Vpi plays too fat and rough, The Ariston too soft, and the Nottingham way too coloured.

If Your setup is Natural and Neutral, this is the TT to buy, I have tried the QC - but think that the money is better spend on other equipment.

My Gyro stands without any mods, except the large SOTA VinylMATTE (my Gyro has the aluminum platter).

I have head the new Gyro as well - but I think it needs Dynamiks and bas.

I can only recommend this TT - if You want something better go look for something ten times more expensive!!!!

I suggest you get this turntable with the QC and SME V upgrades. You might go the route of getting its bigger brother, the Orbe, if you really want to have
it all for the classic vinyl. When used with the upgrades (SME V arm and QC) this turntable has no rival that I know of. The Gyrodec is very basic by itself and just needs the SME V to shine its power. Musically, I could havethought a CD was playing in the background. It made my digitally tuned ears sing praises!!
There is no match, so there is nothing to compromise-get it or the Orbe. There is no other. (I could put it in detail but so many others already did!)

I have been listening to this product for more than ten years now and can vouch for the sonic and mechanical quality of this deck. I have upgraded the power supply from the original to the one housed in the acrylic box to the recent model. I always used it with the RB300 which is an excellent product as well. I have never been tempted to upgrade to a more expensive arm. Naturally, I would love to see a SME Type V on the deck but I am not sure it is worth all the money. My cartridge is Dynavector XX-1L which is expensive but well worth the money if you want an ultra smooth sounding cartridge with good base extension and rhythmic qualities. Surface noise is very low. The combined experience is a rock solid sound, good bass, and it works with all kinds of music. It may not portray the deepest soundstage you can imagine but that is something I don't care about. I want instruments to have as much natural timbre as possible without the lower mid-bass bloating which you get with an LP-12. Mind you, the LP-12 is good but my personal taste is for the Gyrodec.

Michell Gyrodec I have owned a gyrodec in various forms since 1993.
the build quality is second to none and even with heavy use over the years has required very little setting up and maintainance only ever needing the odd drive belt. It is built to last unlike some other turntables I could mention, plus it looks the biz!

SOUND QUALITY
With basic power-supply and RB300 arm has solid bass with reasonable timing.
The midrange is clear if a little thin, but it is in the treble that the Gyrodec really shines. The deck does not have much of a character of it's own and lets changes made to arms and cartridges very obvious.

Upgrade to the QC power supply and the sound stage doubles in size and depth rivaling any other turntable on the market. Bass is deeper and now has great timing. This sharper timing allowing even more detail to appear from your vinyl.
The Rega RB300 although a good arm for the money does not do the Gyrodec justice. Upgrade to a SME 309/IV/V and the gyrodec is transforned with much deeper base, cleaner midrange and fantastic treble clarity.

The Gyrodec due to its open design will accomidate many differant arms and cartridges good matches are Air Tangent's,SME's,Linn's plus many more making this turntable one of the most compatable around.

With my Qc Gyrodec, Custom SME309 arm and DNM etile cartidge the sound is simply wonderfull, it can really rock and can play delicate acoustic music with equall ease.

Tips
1] Try using only one drive belt instead of the two supplied with older decks
2]Don't waste your time with a cheap phono stage.
3]Use a decent arm and cartridge and as long as your vinyl is in decent condidtion you won't look back.

Having recently emigrated from England to the USA the one thing I wanted to take with me was a Gyrodec. I had been a regular listener of the Gyro for some years as friends had one, but never got around to purchasing one myself.
So I had to have a brand new Gyro with the QC power supply, and as I work for an international group of electronics companies, I was fortunate enough to have contacts at Rega, so I purchased their top of the line RB900 arm.

Cartridge is the Ortofon MC3000 II, this is truly a superb set-up, fortunately my Krell pre-amp has an excellent phono stage, so I don't have to worry about upgrading that.

This is truly one of the best decks I have heard, the only other deck I would have other than the Gyro would be the Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck, but this does not have any lid or cover, and with that high gloss finish black, duct is a major problem.

Anyway, get out there and listen to a master piece of British engineering, it ,looks great too especially in the export gold model.
