STOP !!! If you're interested in a $4000 Technics this isn't it. This is a very fine, get the job done SONY component. Any review with the phrase "for the money" or "at this price" is just ridiculous and I stop reading right there. This fully automatic, quiet, belt drive turntable is fantastic. Just put a record on the spindle, push one button and play will start, play to the end, then return the tonearm to its rest, and shut off, or you can use the cue lever to start on a favorite track. GOOD bass and detail and a wide 3D soundstage from the magnetic cartridge and conical stylus without the hoopla. I power the signal with an 85 WPC 2.0 Yamaha amp that has a dedicated phono stage and get sound through a pair of Yamaha bookshelf three ways. The Sony straight tonearm with an angled head tracks well and seems to smooth over most of the snaps, crackles and pops that I know are in some of my vintage vinyl. Plug and play, soft touch push buttons and plays both LPs and 45s. It has a built in preamp so you can use powered speakers or an amp without a phono input. I'm sure the static balanced tone arm was engineered to critical standards and at about 3 grams down force, I wouldn't worry about excessive groove wear. You can replace a worn stylus with the readily available Audio Technica ATN3600. I bought this unit in 2003 when $100 plus tax wasn't cheap. Although the unit body and dust cover are lightweight and all plastic, I find it durable for its needs (it's on the top shelf of my component rack and is used to play records) and since 2003 nothing is cracked or broken.

Weakness:

Are you kidding? Read all of the above, nothing bad about it.

Strength:

cheap, good sound

Weakness:

short cables, no tonearm adjustment

I bought this a coupla days ago and am satisfied with the perfrmance of the unit, I had to tweak the tracking mass of the tonearm cause it is higher than normal which, I did this by glueing 3 quarters and one dime to the back of the tonearm so as to counter the stylus weight, this seems to work fine for me, although id recommend experimenting with how many coins you need.
