Strength:

Beats the hell out of kimber for 1/10 the price!

Weakness:

Takes about a week to break in

I waited until all of my cables were fully broken in before writing this review. I don't want to be crude like the guys below but they have a point. For Interconnects these cables are the best value period. My stereo now pulls me away from the computer or the tv. The soundstage is big, imaging excellent, level of detail is astounding and all that without being too bright. They dramatically changed the sound of my sub for the better. I agree that they can sound a little bright and ragged at first but you must wait for them to break in. If you can solder you can save even more money by making your own cables! Bravo Homegrown!

Strength:

Great value! Made of silver, fast, excellent dynamic, very high resolution across the frequency range, nice build quality, friendly salespeople.

Weakness:

Are you kidding? I can't found any.

Among all the cables mentioned above, this cable is definitely the best and most musical. I can detect an improved sense of air and sparkle in the music, fuller sound and more open sound.

I have used DH labs for 1 year (I prefer DH Labs above Ixos' top of the line, Gamma Studio and also Kimber PBJ), then I was browsing a forum on the net and found this interesting silver interconnect being mentioned there. I decided to give it a try due to its low price and boy! I am selling my DH Labs and keeping this one.

Strength:

Neutral, Relative Price to Kimbers

Weakness:

May make you feel like a moron if you bought Kimber

I generally liked the sound that the PBJs allowed for between DAC and Amp. The only downside was a slight brightness in the upper-midrange and a slight roll-off at the high-end. When I saw that the Homegrownaudio Super Silvers looked like a copy and improvement of the silver, three-strand design of the pricer KCAG(the Super Silvers use solid silver!), I had to try the Homegrowns.

I knew that the Super Silvers would refine the high-end, but I didn't expect anything else. Not only does it relax the upper-midrange without detail loss, and extends the highs, it adds a little more of that great Kimber 'weight' and 'meatiness' to the Mids. Snares and the mid-level notes of horns sound denser and thus, more real. In addition, the lower midrange is fleshed out and refined. The high notes of an up right bass are cleaner and the lower-mid portion of the piano gels better with the rest of the instrument. There's also more speed and authority to the sound, in addition to slightly taller, wider, and deeper soundstage. Bass extension seemed the same, though my NHT's only go down to 50hz, so I can't truly judge the full low-end performance of the Silvers.

One thing I was skeptical and not really concerned about was this whole talk about leading-edge transients, in regard to silver interconnects. But I think the Silvers sold me. The inital blast of an instrument is more prevelant. Trumpets and saxes seem to blast from the horn, and not just land on your face.

Anyways, I think this is the last cable I'll buy. It's a waist of time for me to think and even write about them. I'll stick with the Super Silvers, or if I have to some day, upgrade to the Laces.

directly into a Audiosource Amp Three power-amp

Strength:

As stated, several reviews ago

Weakness:

Smitty, the buffoon who posted the last remark.

Hey Smitty,

Did you notice that the company is called Homegrown Audio? Not Bose, Sony, Technics, or Sansui? Or, is it possible that you've been smoking too much homegrown, and not listening to enough Homegrown? Stay off the phone, dude, and listen to the cables. When the fog clears, you'll come around. For the record: www.homegrownaudio.com.

Strength:

Detail,smoothness,

Weakness:

None,really!

I don't have any experience with the original version of the Super Silver interconnect, but I've just received and installed the new version, Super Silver 2, into my system.
All I can tell you is this...whew!!! This cable is beyond belief. It is incredibly detailed and smooth--all at the same time! There is a cohesiveness and naturalness to the signal. It is pure, clean, quiet, and effortless. The treble range is stunning--and I'm using electrostatic speakers. There is no better deal in cables than these.
By the way, the very deluxe Silver Lace take all this a small step further.
If your system is up to it these cables may be all you will ever need.
I'm saving my pennies for their speaker cables!

Strength:

Very musical and focused midrange, good pace and rythm, impactful and menacing bass, not bright, but far from dull on top, transparent, nicely constructed and uses high quality connectors.

Weakness:

Unbelievably long break in, until they do they can be fatiguing due to an emphasis in the upper mid/lower treble, and the harmonic pallet can be a little sterile sounding.

This review is for the Silver Lace ic with XLR connections.

I bought the Silver Laces primarily for use as a substitute ic when buying/selling my primary ics. From the moment I put this ic in my system I knew it had very good potential. However the break in period was very long, and at one point I almost sent them back due to an emphasis that persisted in the upper mids/lower treble. This smoothed out at the month and a half mark, in fact the whole tonal balance of the cable is now well integrated, and harmonic retrieval is much better. Two words summarize this cable for me, and thats 'listener involvement'. Detail retrieval, pace/speed, focused images, liveliness, and excellent bass depth and impact all contribute. I wouldn't characterize the Silver Lace as bright, but dull its not. It stacks up very well to my more expensive cables, perhaps better then TA Super, but not quite as good as Ultra.

Given their excellent price to performance I have ordered 2.5 pairs for use in my HT.

Strength:

just plain sounds good for price; put them together yourself and save even more

Weakness:

didn't hear any to say

I've recently put together a speaker system in which I actively tri-amped to avoid the hassles of messing with and designing an adequate passive crossover. For this, I'm extremely happy that I did; it sounds great. I needed to connect everything together with quality interconnects without busting my beer budget in striving for my champagne taste. Homegrown Audio helped me beyond what I expected. I ordered a one meter Super Silver II for connecting my D/A converter to the pre-amp, and 1/2 meter Super Silver II interconnects to connect the preamp to the active crossover, and it to the tweeter, midbass, and subwoofer amps. In the meantime my amplifier placements changed from the original plan and I needed a 1 meter interconnect for connecting the crossover to the midbass amp. The temporary replacement was a 1 meter Straightwire Encore from my home theatre. So, after much tweaking of levels, speaker placement, ect., I had a nice sounding system going and was very pleased; it was as clean as what I've heard in our local audio salons costing much, much more than than my modest investment of a couple of kilobucks. The SS II and Encore interconnects were all doing their business just fine. When I later recieved the SS II meter interconnect and plugged it in, replacing the Encore; WoW! With no break-in and the solder still warm, the mid-bass connection opened up the resolution and soundstage a full magnitude. And the Encore wasn't bad at all either. All the drivers just blended in together with some uncanny synthesis and spit out a wonderfully clear soundstage, and with no level tweaks of the crossover- one of Mr. Marchand's fine creations. Depth and width opened up and there was way less grain in the high bass-low midrange area as experienced with the Encore. These guys are clear and clean, and you'd have to spend some really good big bucks to better them. Do yourself a favor, check them out.

Strength:

Smooth, Transparent, Excellent Highs Without Being Harsh

Weakness:

None So Far

I originally had the BetterCables copper interconnects and I wanted to try some silver cables to see if the treble could be improved in my system. I had the BC cables between the B&K Ref 30 and Sherbourn 5/1500 amp. I first tried the Home Grown Audio Super Silver II interconnects and while I enjoyed the better treble and overall smoothness, there was a lack of low end bass punch. I had read other reviews stating that the SS2s could be a touch light in the bass and that the Silver Laces fixed the problem. I ordered the Laces and after trying them, I returned the SS2s without any problems. The Laces do fill in the bass over the SS2s and share the improved smoothness and better treble than the original copper. I currently have the BC cables running from my Sony SCD-C555ES SACD player but will be upgrading them to Laces as soon as I can afford another set of 5 silver laces. (The $442 price was for 5 Silver Lace cables with expedited shipping.) I'll continue to use copper for the subwoofer interconnects.
