BEST CABLE. You can hear things you never heard before... I have changed from Transparent top line (which are actually very good, but pricey) to JPS superconductors 2 which outperform any, I say ANY cable on the market.

These cables are simply awesome! To me, these cable are the best; nothing could be better. The end result when using these cables is astonishing. It is hard to believe that cables make so much difference. JPS is the King of the audio cable industry.

I got a 1M pair of superconductor to replace my Tara Labs RSC Prime (older model with the plugs (looks like Cardas) covered in plastic) between my Audiomeca CD player and Classe CAP-80 integrated which drives a pair of Avalon Monitors via biwired XLO Pro650F cables. The Tara Labs are really quite fine for the dollar but like many audiophiles, I just itched for an upgrade somewhere.
As most buyers would notice, it is actually quite difficult to put the cable into place. Very careful bending of the cable is required to avoid breaking either the cable or the plugs on the equipment. After I got it right, I could then let it break in and do its thing (Pity the audio reviewers who need to plug and remove these cables regularly). Come to think of it, managing this cable is actually easier than the RSC Prime. The RSC Prime, although perhaps ever so slightly more flexible, cannot be bent into shape. It springs back! This is particularly troublesome if you use it with light equipment (Audio Alchemy and MF X-series come to mind). I've had these RSC cables for about three years. When I pulled them out, they still spring back into a nice moon shape just the way they were when new!

Enough about setup and on we go to the sound. After a few full days of break-in (they needed it), the fuzziness and lack of sparkle goes away. Yet still, it doesn't sound as open as the RSC Prime that it replaced. However, the more I listened, I more I hear that everything that I used to hear are still here. The basic works - soundstage, imaging, decay - are all there. Then I realised that the best attribute of these cables is that everything is kept in perspective with no particular attribute that stand out to allure at first listen but tire over time. Strings are now less phasey, voices are no more sibilant or more forceful than real life, decay of a cymbal comes and goes naturally and the bass is "just right". The best word that I can use to describe these cables is "NEUTRAL". No bass from the centre of the Earth. No treble rising to heaven. No angelic glow from voices. No soundstage that extends to the convenience store two bus stops away. Just the sound of the original event. If you really want to hear what your record collection sounds like, these JPS cables would be a great choice. Wonder what the extra outlay would do with the Superconductor2. (Give you a wrist exercise through bending the thicker cable???)

Strength:

Transparency, used market price is excellent.

Weakness:

Stiff, awkward to work with. Getting tougher to find on the used market.

What's to say about the original Superconductors that hasn't been said already? They are simply the finest cable I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Transparent as all get out! Better grab 'em when you see 'em, as they're getting tougher to find on the used market. I highly recommend the JPS speaker cable and power cord cable as well. As far as I'm concerned, JPS is the absolute best cable available. To all those Transparent NETWORK box owners out there...all I can say is read 'em and weep..........

Strength:

Musicality - smoothness, detail, depth, information

Weakness:

A bit slow, a bit narrow (but deep) soundstage, a bit blur - but not much!

The superconductors which I bought demo-used in biwired version have served me very well. I enjoy them. I recently compared to Kimber Monocle X, and much as I like Kimber cable (i use an kcag interconnect and two kimber power cords to good effect), this was really no match. The Monocle was perhaps slightly faster and clearer, but the Superconductor outshone it in all other respects - more musical space, full-bodied instruments and voices, less glare and grain, and so on. Obviously one has to move up to more expensive Kimbers to beat the superconductors.
System: a Krell FPB600 that drives a pair of (heavy load) two-way Marton Norwegian speakers (resembling Proac 3.5, modified with magnets etc.) augmented with two REL Strata 3 subs. Sources: Musical Fidelity XLP2 dual mono riaa (hw-19 mk4 player with Clearaudio triquarts parallell arm and Lyra DC pickup)and fcd cd player.

Excellent cables. Extreemely transparent with huge but not over soundstaging. This is probably the most neutral sounding speaker cables and interconnects I've ever heard... with no addition in lower freq or high freq .... they JUST RIGHT!!! Can't wait to use the Supercondutor 2 speaker cables....

Buy this if you have the money.... price and quality is second to NONE!

Interconnect seekers:
If you're looking for a great set of interconnects I just have to point you towards a company called JPS Labs. They develop an interconnect called the Superconductor.

I have been looking for new sets of interconnects to go between my amp, preamp and CD player for several months. I first auditioned a set of DH Labs Silver Sonics since I heard they were a good interconnect. I sent for a pair and after breaking them in for over 60 hours, I found I wasn't as happy with them as I thought I would be. I felt they 'blanketed' my sound stage, so I sent them back. They had a sold bass end, but the mid and high end seemed subdued.

I did some more research and was lead to Kimber Kables. I tested the PBJ, Silver Streak and KCAG Silver tri-wires. For the money, the PBJ sounded good. For a little more the Silver Streaks gave a more detailed sound, but I felt the low end sounded somewhat tubby. The KCAG's were clear and bright, but they seemed to be missing something. They seemed kind of harsh. I felt that for the money I could probably do better if I kept looking.

I was going to audition a set of Transparent, but after reading and thinking about them, I felt that their 'Network' was nothing more than another crossover system. Since I own a set of ACI Sapphire III speakers, I know that there was a lot of research that went into the design of their crossover. I don't want anything to 'modify' the sound quality of these already excellent sounding speakers.

I eventually ran into a review of an interconnect called the JPS Superconductor. Since they were not sold here in Portland (OR), I contacted JPS and they were more than happy to send a set to a local high end stereo shop (StereoTypes).

After they arrived I picked them up, took them home and hooked them up.

You have got to hear how clear, detailed and neutral these interconnects sound. I thought the Sapphires sounded great already, but after hooking these babies up to my system, the Sapphires took on a realm of music I never thought possible.

These interconnects do not add anything to the music and reproduce exactly what is coming from the recording. I have never heard music so balanced and uncolored as with these interconnects. Bass is solid, tight and real. Mids are tight , detailed and clear with absolutely no coloration. Highs are crisp, clear and smooth without any harshness or brittleness (if that is a word).

I will not go into detail here, but if you're interested in a review, that in my opinion, is the most accurate description of a product I've read and compared, check out SoundStage!'s review of them. Here's the address of the review done on the JPS Superconductors...

http://www.sstage.com/rise05.htm

After having them on my system for over 150 hours, I totally agree with their review.

If you're looking for a *Great* interconnect check these out.

Note: I only have one gripe about these interconnects and that is, they are very stiff. But the sound qualities of these cables far outweigh their stiffness. If you elect to get a set, get the 1 meters, they tend to me easier to work with.

Also, since I know I'll get asked, I have a Rotel 980 Amp (120W/channel), Rotel 940 Preamp, Denon 5 CD carousel player, M&K MX 200 sud and a set of Sapphire III speakers.

Best regards,
Dennis Triplett

Openness, transparency, imagining, everything!!

This is a review for the NEW JPS Superconductor FX series (The Superconductor+ has been discontinued). I just recieved these cables yesterday. Joe at JPS tells me I'm the FIRST person in the country to recieve them, and I'm absolutly thrilled :)

JPS has been saying for awhile that they understand our dislikes when it came to the super+'s inflexabilty, so they have COMPLETELY designed the FX series to be completely flexable (From my understanding, it's a new compound that has tested even better).

The new FX series interconnect cable feel almost like purple rubber (yes, purple) in your hands, and installed VERY easily into my entertainment center. I odered five 1 meter cables to run from my pre/pro to my amp completing my switchover from Nordost to all JPS, and I couldn't be happier. I fell in love with their Superconductor+ speaker cables a long time ago, and it's taken me a few months to try other cables, and make sure I was going in the right direction. For those that say cables don't make a difference, you've either got no ear, or your equipment isn't of a level that good cabling will make a difference. In my it's made a WORLD of difference. I even switched the original analog cables on my digital cable box (originally Ultracondoctor, then nordost) to Super+'s, and I was AMAZED at how much more open the sound was imediatly. The only thing left with non-superconductors is my VCR, and that's running the Ultra's because I rarely even turn it on anymore.

If you get a chance, and your system is up to it, try these cables against ANYTHING else out there. You will not be dissapointed. My new FX's sound as good today as my 3 month old +'s, so with a couple weeks of run-in, I expect they will be even better.

My current configuration:
TAG McLaren AV32R-EX - Pre/Pro - (Superconductor FX to Amp)
TAG McLaren 100X5R - 5 Channel Amp
TAG McLaren CDT20R-T2L - CD Transport - (Super+ digital)
TAG McLaren T20 - AM/FM Tuner - (Ultraconductor)
Sony DVP-9000ES - DVD/SACD Player - (Super+ digital for DVD, Super+ analong for SACD)
JMLab Electra 905's fronts - (Super+)
JMLab Electra CC30 - Center - (Super+)
JMLab Electra 905's rears - (Monster Z1R)
JMLab Electra SW33A - sub 1 - (UltraLink Platinum sub cable)
Sunfire True Subwoofer Mark II - sub 2 - (UltraLink Platinum sub cable)
Motorola DCT-2000 Digital Cable Box - (Super+ digital and Analog)
Sony KV36XBR400 WEGA (UltraLink Platinum Component Video from DVD, UltraLink Platinum S-Video from AV32R for Digital Cable Box and VCR)

I second everyone else's 5-star rating. These cables are easily comparable to the best on the market, and at a much lower price.
In my system, they connect Atma-sphere M60 mk. 2 amps and Merlin VSM-SE speakers (see reviews in other sections of Audioreview). The JPS cables permit the quality of these two exceptional products to be heard.

Give them at least 150 hours to break in. After that, just sit back and enjoy!
