Strength:

Mids, soundstage, clear sounding (may it sounds a bit bright at very high freq. with some sets) with a very very good bass.

Weakness:

Really hard to find any. It needs at least 100 hours of play to burn and then listen to it.

I upgrade my Nad CD to Integr. interconnect with this Kimber Hero. The previous cable was a pricy monster. The sound difference is huge. The Hero gives even more detail and amazing soundstage. It sounds warm and speedfull - just the right bass speed I need. Perect value for money.

Strength:

Good soundstage Warmth if you want it Good high end

Weakness:

Mid range overcompensation Slightly muddy bass

My system sometimes seems to have a very clean sound and I have been recently shopping for a cable change to improve the musicality. I have a Sony XA777ES SACD player going through a Rotel 1060 to B&W 804N's. I really love this system, but I am always hoping for something more. Recently I tried both the Kimber Hero and the more expensive Transparent Music Link Plus interconnects. I have a feeling that a lot of cables made these days are sonically tailored towards home theatre, and both of these cables gave me that impression. The Kimber was the best of the two, but it seemed to have a enhanced and noisy midrange. The Transparent Musiclink Plus was simply awful, it was so boosting to the midrange that it was exactly like pushing the loudness button on a cheap receiver. I was really surprised by this, I thought they would be like my MIT's. I really wanted to like these cables and really they are quite good. They are just not as clean as I need them to be. What am I using still? My old bottom of the line MIT Terminator 4's. I must have got a really good pair as I have found nothing yet that equals them. They are flat and crisp, and do not seem to skew the sound at all.

Strength:

Detail,warmth and body

Weakness:

Treble rolled off sanitized music

The Kimber hero didn't give the performance I expected. It gives a natural sound wiht warmth and body but the treble is rolled off and it sanitized the music. In comparison, the Kimber PBJ is a great value a bit bright but alive and real. If you want to upgrade your Kimber PBJ, save your money and buy the Kimber Silver Streak, a fantastic cable in the same category as the PBJ.

Strength:

Good bass definition Excellent soundstaging Transient crispness

Weakness:

None except the ultra high profit margin on cables...don't believe the dealer lies

This review is specifically for those considering an upgrade to high-priced (>$100/pair) interconnects. This review is NOT a war-of-words to decribe the nuances between good cables. Geez, cable cable evaluation is like wine tasting, but with far fewer attractive women with whom your impressions may be discussed. I recently purchased several high-quality components but didn't want to spend money on interconnects because of the lack of consensus around which cables are "good." A friend urged me to reconsider, so I auditioned the Hero because it was Absolute Sound's runner-up interconnect of the year (and the price of the winner, Nordost Valhalla was absolutely ludicrous. Who the #$%^ spends thousands on wire?) I was stunned at the difference. My system now has bass below 80 Hz, the soundstage has opened up, the transients are far more crisp. In short, everything is better. I tried the cable between my junk components as well as the new gear and the difference was quite noticable, whether FM, CD, or SACD. If you were like me and had mass market electronics with the out-of-the-box interconnects, then try a good interconnect and enjoy the difference in quality.

Strength:

Warm, detailed and on the hot/sizzle side.

Weakness:

None. All around the best cable I have reviewed and owned for the price. It can't be beat for 150.00 @1m retail.

I have been on a quest for the RIGHT interconnect for my ongrowing and upgrading system.I have tried many different brands and always found IT not be the rightcable for my system of price point.Untill I discovered the Hero's......and they said that a hero in todays lifestyle doesn't exsist...I beg to differ. I conducted a 3 way shootout between 2 interconnects I own.Transparent musiclinks,Monster M950i;s and the new kid on the box,the Kimber Hero's. Well right off the bat the monster was smoked by the Hero's(and was smoked by the Transparents in a shootout of the past). So the 2 top dogs stood.Proud and ready for battle. Transparent is one musical cable. One of the if not the finest cable company I had the pleasure of listening to/working with and owning. But there prices go threw the roof. In comparsion to the Hero's, the Transparent had a different approach to the way it replays the sound.Highs are slightly rooled oof and laid back.Bass is warm and neutral.Mid range is to die for.Detail is like there price tag, threw the roof. The Kimber Hero's had all the detail and finese of the Transparent suprising to say,but had one qualit I personally liked better, the high end sizzle.Yes sizzle, the cymbols where more pronounced and clear, not by much but enough for my system to sparkle it. My system is pretty flat sounding and since I built it,or better put building it,Wire has concerned me.Transparent is a company you can wire your entire system with and have a really complete sound.Kimber is alittle less off the wallet and adds alittle sparkel to a falt sounding system.

Very transparent, awesome highs and mids. Good bottom end articulation. WBT RCA connector. Killer value.

Weakness:

None

Extremely transparent and neutral. I was suprised how much better they were over the PBJs which I've been using as my reference. There is just more of everything minus the slight grain found in the PBJ. The treble and midrange clarity is just plain awesome esp in this price category. I'm trully impressed. Strength:

Excellent balance, top to bottom, besting cables costing twice as much.

Weakness:

Not as much bass response as some.

I was somewhat shocked that I could hear the difference between almost any pair of cables in my system, if I tried. Kimber's PBJ were good but not as good as these Heros, which both had richer bass and higher resolution treble. Audioquest's offerings simply weren't in the same league (actually worse than MonsterCable), while I even preferred the Hero to Acoustic Zen's $250 intro cable; the latter had a richer low end, but lacked the impressive treble clarity of Kimber.

Strength:

Mid range warmth, Great mid-fi synergy

Weakness:

Rolled off, poor match in system not requiring cable colouring

Audio is an odd thing. Lately I've found my system lacking in cymbal work presentation. Being a drummer, this is kind of a nuisance. My previous review of the Hero was quite a ways off the mark. Very off in fact. I currently have Silver Streak balanced on order and sold the Hero. In the meantime I'm using a pair of Monster Digital cables that I had collecting dust. Surprisingly enough they are better in every way. That's not high praise for our 'Hero'. So I retract my previous thoughts on the Hero. It's rather obvious now that it didn't improve, I just got used to it. The Hero is the perfect mass market cable though. It's slow rolled off character both high and low would be a perfect match to an otherwise bright front end or receiver. However on an otherwise great system, that same roll off that starts off as easy to listen to, involving, becomes obviously lacking both in the cymbal work and lower piano, bass drum, bass guitar. Should be interesting to see how the Silver Streak measures up. If the Monster Digital bests it too, I may have found an unexpected audio jewel. big big difference in sound from the monster cable i had been using. even though they are not cmpleting burned in yet they are still miles ahead of the monsters. the soundstage seems to have drop back a few feet and the sound has a more relaxing feel to it. the highs are more crisp and focused. mids seem to come out more and are straightforward. very transparent cable, very easy to listen to. i can here more music, it has done wonders for my cd collection. great product highly reccomended

Strength:

Easy to connect, neutral, accurate, transparent full sound, especially in the mid-range and treble.
Five star rating is for this cable in the $100-$150 price range.

Weakness:

A tad bit lacking on bass punch, just a tad.

I had been using Vampire Wire OSC silver 1.0 m interconnects ($125) for my CD player and just
for the hell of it I decided to try some Kimber Kable Hero ($140) in 1.0 m length, which I
purchased from Audio Advisor. They have a 30-day money back guarantee, so I figured what could
I lose.

Of the higher end interconnects priced between $100-$150 which could be purchase locally Monster
and Vampire Wire are the only choices. I figured it's always good to broaden my horizons and try
something new.

After breaking in the Kimber as best as I could I could tell there is a noticeable diffenece over
the Vampire OSC. The Hero has better accuracy, imaging, transparancy and a noticeably fuller
sound, especially in the mid-range. It can be best described as having arm rich full tones
without being harsh or overly bright. This is more noticeable with rock, acoustic and
alternative music. It's not a huge difference, but noticeable.

Delores O'Riordan's voice on the Cranberries "Bury the Hatchett" CD is so much fuller and open
with the Hero. The OSC makes her voice sound like there is compression on it. It amazes me,
because the OSC cable is thicker and is more heavier duty than the Hero. The Hero cable can
be easily "squooshed", yet the Hero sounds better.

I also noticed that the Vampire OSC has a bit more punchy in the bass end, though the Hero is
a bit more accurate on most types of music. Strangly at the same volume setting on my receiver
the Vampire gives a tad more volume. Differences in music quality were less noticeable with
HDCD encoded CD's.

Kimber uses WBT connectors that are easy to use and provides a firm grip to the components plugs.

If punchy bass isn't your thing then for the price range I think the Kimber Kable Hero is tough
to beat. I like it and would buy it again.

System: Marantz SR-18 receiver, Parasound CD/P 2000 Ultra Cd player, JM Labs Electra 915
speakers and Monster MC500 speaker wire.
