I think these cables are great! I've read a lot about people saying that you have to have a fantastic system to enjoy these cables. But I've spent a total of less than $300 on mine, and I think the PBJ's are awesome. As an upgrade from Monster Cable, they definitely have more detail, and create a broader soundstage. If you can pick these up for less than $50, I think they're worth it!

Strength:

Stunning on headphone set ups. If you can get it used on ebay or audiogon for approx. $50. Go for it.

Weakness:

Cables are cables. For some of us mere mortals, we can't detect much of a difference when using them on speaker setups.

I am usually abit skeptical about spending lots of money on cables. Some audiophiles claim that you can hear a large difference, but my unsophisticated ears were never quite able to pick up on much of a difference. Thus, I was guardedly cautious when I considered upgrading my generic gold plated RCA interconnects to something more exotic. I stumbled upon a used pair of PBJs on Audiogon and decided to test my luck on them. Having heard the PBJ's rave reviews before, I was quite curious. Could they prove me wrong? The answer to that question is: Yes and No. On my speakers the improvements are slight (so here the 'No' part). I had to listen hard to detect a difference. However, the jaw dropper came when I plugged the PBJs into my Headroom Supreme Amp-Etymotic earphones combo. One word; Magic. The bass was so deliciously chunky, you have trouble keeping your feet still. Vocals were transparent. The treble was crisp and clear. It is as if someone just lifted an invisible veil that previously barred these beautiful sonic qualities from reaching my ear drums. As you might have guess, this is the 'yes' part. In sum, I would highly recommend these cables for those keen on listening to headphones (if they don't already own a high quality interconnect). As for the speakers, well... that would have to depend on your audiophile ears.

Strength:

High frequency resolution and detail.

Weakness:

A little thin in the bass.

Probably the best cable under $100. Audioquest and Monster can't compete with this baby. Not a lot of bottom end, but incredible high-end detail. Only bested by Kimber's own more expensive cables, in my tests.

when i first bought this cable it sounded horrible. i didn't really believe the whole break in stuff....i thought that was just a scam. it seems to be true i guess. this is my first expensive interconnect so i don't know much about it but i think this stuff sounds pretty good now that it's been a few weeks.

It is a great cable. Good detail and transparency. It works very well with my audio components. Before I bought the Kimber PBJ, I was using a Van den Hul D102-III and I didn't fit in my setup. The sound was not as transparent as with the Kimber which I paid about at half the price.

Strength:

detail, transparency, clarity

Weakness:

can be VERY bright in the wrong system

An excellent cable. However, any cable, as astutely pointed out by a previous reviewer, needs burn-in time and this is true with the PBJ. Also, if you add this cable to an already bright system, the sound has the potential to be horrific. This is an essentially neutral cable that is best partnered with equipment that is on the warm side. The remaining cables in my system are Cardas so I feel that the best qualities of each are allowed through. The Kimber is detailed, very transparent while the Cardas provides a touch of warmth, and fullness/body. I have tried the PBJ connected between a Rotel CD player and a solid state receiver and the sound was indeed harsh, bright. As it sits now in my system, it contributes to a sound that is quite lovely. At the price (and given the right system), it is unmatched.

Please read other reviews.

Weakness:

None other than burn-in period that dealers know nothing about.

After reading many of the reviews of this product, my purpose in writing is to pass alone some important information that few have mentioned. Simply, that these cables need to be "burned in," or what ever euphemism you choose to use. For me, it was a little over 100 hours and the manufacture indicates it can go up to 150 hours, especially if one is constantly moving the cables around(e.g. disconnecting, dusting, etc.) All of this will effect the cables. I began and continue to use the PBJ's to connect a CD player to a preamp. Without using visual descriptions to describe an auditory experience, the sound was very disappointing but as I allowed the cables to wear in, the brilliance of this product came out. So in my opinion, at this price point and for the sound quality you will ultimate get, there isn't a better cable product on the market.

Weakness:

ummmmm i dunno

price in £'s, i have only had these interconnects for a few days now but detail & more detail was imediate, i was using vdh d102 mk3 with rothwell attenuators to -10db & it sounded v fine indeed but now with the pbj attenuated to -14db the amount of detail im getting is top notch, not a sniff of brightness or hum or other syptoms just good quality solid performance, the reason for attenuation is to stop the cd player over loading the amp input thus allowing more 3d imaging v simple & v effective to find out more on this visit russandrews.com & download the music & the magic, while your there check out some of their other fine gadgets that really work............. mind blowing!!

I received this cable 4 days ago , i'm amaised of the sound it produces from my low-end hi-fi system. I had Tara Labs cable before , the cheapes i've found becouse i didn't think the cable would have such a great impact on the sound. I was dead wrong, the sound has now a bigger soundstage and now i cand hear subttle details in the music that i didn't notice before.
My system:
Amp:Rotel RA-840bx3
Marantz PM-17KI
Cd: kenwood DP-1510
Tape: Akai GX f-35 (rarely used , but still produces a great sound)
Speakers: Jamo Studio 180
Interconects: KimberKable PBJ/ultraplate
Wire: Monster ALDA 5
I am interested in audio for about 8 months and my system is almost new.
The cable shines with the Rotel amp and it's good with my Marantz amp.
