Everyone that's purchsed high dollar interconnects: Please post your names and addresses so I can dream up expensive unneeded equipment to sell you. I have a carload of ionized ping pong balls that when placed under your equipment will GREATLY enhance the quality of your audio - only $119.95 each. Do yourself a favor: go to a local hardware store and buy some zip cord. Take it home, invite a couple people over to compare the zip with your interconnects. I've compared, know several people that have compared, heard many of the arguments, read closely controlled comparison tests and have concluded the following: PT Barnum was correct.

Why do people walk around flaunting the term "Audiophile"? It sounds sick... "Hey, lets go hang out with the Audiophiles - maybe they'll have some NADs with them." This is a hobby, and there really should be term for those of us who enjoy it... preferably one that doesn't end with "phile". I've been to two High Fidelity shops locally, and I've come to realise that there are two types of people who call themselves "Audiophiles", "Music Enthusiasts" or whatever. The first are a group of people who seem to really, really believe that their home stereo system is the key to superiority over common man. I readily accept these people have better cars, bigger homes, and larger bank accounts than I ever will... I just don't understand why they have to tell me that any cable under $3.00/ft sucks. Or how they can say that a $150 interconnect really sounds fifteen TIMES better than Acoustic Research RCAs. Can someone tell me why every Hi Fi sales person stopped being nice after I simply said I couldn't afford to spend more than $50.00 on speaker wire? And don't say commission, because the other people in the store practically had heart attacks.
Then there is the second type of "Audiophile" - the people I enjoy talking to. They accept that this is a HOBBY, not life or death. Sure they'll go out and spend $1000.00 on cable, but they do it because it makes them happy. The cool "Audiophile" will pay for "the best sound possible", but they also don't look down on those of us who are looking for "the best sound for the money". They don't walk around with a complex ranting about "laid back speaker cables" or how Monster is the Bose of speaker wire. If you have the means, go ahead and spend your money freely. But please, please don't knock those of us who simply enjoy music, instead of engrossing our lives in the reproduction of recordings.
I own AR cables because they're the best I could afford, and I really do believe I can hear an increase in sound quality and dynamics. I have biwired 16ga speaker cable in my fronts that I braided myself (to cancel RF noise - I'm an undergrad physics student, and that's pretty much what 2 years in a university has yielded ;]). I spent about $40.00, and that's with four bannanas per speaker and one FAT spade for each polarity. I could've cut my cost in half by not biwiring, and saved some time by not braiding (which is the most tedious thing I've done yet for my system), but you know what? It made me HAPPY! Is there really a difference in sound quality? Probably, but it can't be much. But since my wallet is $20.00 lighter and I lost an hour in my life, I'll say that this is the best damn cable on the planet. 5 speakers!

I recently bought a Toslink to Toslink cable from www.avconnect.com and like many other posts I have read, these are great cables for the price.
Unlike some other optical cables that I used before, the light is a lot brighter for the AR optical cable. I have other cables (Max-cable) that when you direct the cables to the light, the color is not as bright and somewhat yellowish. AR cable is very well made and really improved the sound quality of my system.

One the price/quality ratio, it is definitely worth every penny (5-star) for the quality that you get.

There are 2 things I will not do. I will not pay too much for a good thind, nor will I pay too little. I have a variety of audio cables for monster, AR pro, RCA, custom built. I am impressed with the AR cables. I discovered the cabling difference when I bought my first set of Monster AV cables in 94 for my svhs recorder. since then i have tried to be aware. my experience leads me to believe there are 3 schools of audio/video appreciation: those who have the money to demand the best, those who want the best for their money, and those who want the best for the least money. I fall in the middle. I have been pleased with the quality of these wires. I sure wouldn't have expected anything more for the price
my system:
sony da50es receiver
Pana 120u dvd
hitachi svhs
hitachi 32" (don't laugh it has great reproductoin, just small)
paradigm speakers all the way around(i love 'em)

I rewired my entire system with AR cables and speaker wire purchased from www.accessories4less.com. I was using the basic RCA cables from my Sony CD player to my Technics receiver and upgrade to the AR 12ft Ditigal Toslink cable. The sound was much more detailed and more open. The cables are very well constructed and a great bargain!

The AR 12 gauge Superflat speaker wire I purchased was very hard to find, but I only paid $17.99 for a 30 foot spool! Monster Cable's Superflat wire cost $45.00 and looks just like the AR wire. It made a huge improvement over the previous cheap freebie wire I was using. The bass was much tighter and more controlled and the highs sounded less harsh. I shopped everywhere and found Accessories4less.com to be the lowest priced overall and there service was excellent.

I replaced all of my generic s-video cables with the Acoustic Research cables and the picture improvement was immediately noticed. Build quality is also very good.

Strength:

Great value. Best bargain in digital Toslink for under $50. Cool neutral sound without bright highs.

Although I have the XLO/VDO ER-TOS cable listed in comparison, it really isn't fair to judge this cable against one whose price range falls three times higher. In terms of price vs. performance, the AR cable is difficult to beat. Everything is reproduced without accentuating highs or lows; completely neutral which is the way I like it. For under $20, the AR Toslink cable (or any other AR cables) are a worthy inexpensive investment and will greatly enhance your audio experience.

If you are thinking about purchasing Monster Cable connects, I advise you to look into Acoustic Research's products first. The build quality and materials are on par (from what I can tell) and an extra $30 per cable for the MC just isn't worth the expense. I don't have an expert's ear but these AR cables sounded better than the MC's in my opinion.

Sure I admit I'd like to revamp my entire system with Kimber Kable, XLO, or AudioQuest connects but with a budget in mind, I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Get it from www.avconnect.com (currently holding a promotional sale until Dec 31, '99) or www.accessories4less.com

Well it's a TosLink cable. I can't possibly understand how there could be sound differences in TosLink cables. So I need one to connect my Cd to my new Pre/Pro and this fit the bill. The build quality is very good, the cable jacket is thick, the ends are metal, it looks good. I paid 14.99 for 2meters from www.AVconnect.com . The comparable cable from monster at my local circuit city was $99. What more can I say.

This review is focused on Toslink Cables

Finally, someone started making since on these reviews. Digital cables are designed to transfer bits. As long as this is accomplished in its entirety, then the sound you hear is the sound you are supposed to hear. The person before me understood this and so should the gullible individuals that buy more expensive cables. Unless you are planning to run some kind of concert or recording studio, you should not buy more expensive cables. Those pricier cables are for those individuals who really must have em. The fact is folks that there is a certain point where sound quality doesn't get much better. This is the that point. I suggest you just get these Toslink cables, they'll do just fine.
