Strength:

Clear, detailed, a little bit bloomy

Weakness:

To heavy and hard to solder

I have used these cables for more than 5 years. I stopped using them when I tried some Apature silver speaker cable of the same length. To tell the truth, I found them both good, with the silver a little less detailed and with a more controlled bass. I recently biwired my QR 1.6 magnaplanar speakers using both cables, the AQ for high and medium frequencies and the silver APATURE to drive low frequencies. The final result was magnificent. Never have I had so refines, detailed and natural sound in my house. The inverse AQ for low and silver for high is not as good. So, instead of throwing away your quality cable or hide them for years in your closet, biwire and see how a wide and natural window opens in front of your ears. Since I use pure tube components ( Mesa Baron, Sonic Frontier SFL-2 and a Jolida CD player with two 12AX7 tuber) I have the liberty to do something some critics do not recommend: use triode mode with Magneplanars . For instance my Baron has an output of around 60 Wrms in triode, but since I biwired, the quality of the sound has improved greatly in all senses, so I have not used pentode mode for a long time. The AQ Midnight are incredible, (and I say it in 2003). Time will make them better try the and you will realize how open, detailed, holographic they are. By virtue of the high prices of Audioquest cables of today, I had better remain with them and save a good deal of money.

Strength:

I got it in Hong Kong for 10 per foot with termination (no tax)....and made system sing with such harmony and uniformity.
Each strand of wire are individually insulated with special
Teflon material. And the copper are linearly align to maximize the current flow....check it out.

Weakness:

stiff and hard to work with, but, it's design to perform
and to last for years to come.

Can't go wrong!

Buy it second hand on ebay is good idea....

made my system sing beautifully:

Onkyo CD-1 ( top loading, top of line, available in Japan only)
Denon d/a
Carver pre-amp
Bryston 3B amp.
Acrotec 6N 99.9999% pure copper, RCA cable (Japanese)

I used to think that cables didn't make any difference, until this cable made such a noticeable difference in my system. I have an 8ft single-wire run of these cables that I picked up used for $150. When i first got them hooked up, the bass improvement was so noticeable I was shocked. All of a sudden it had power and was so much tighter. I have a pair of NHT 2.5i's and this cable went a long way towards improving their overly bright & harsh sound(hasn't stopped me from wanting to get rid of them though :)
I highly reccommend trying this cable, especially if you are sitting there listening to a pair of $30 cables strangle your sound.

Rest of my setup is:
AA CD-Drive
Kimber AGDL
Theta Pro Basic II DA
AQ Topaz
Aragon 24K pre
AQ Topaz
CJ MF2200 amp
AQ Midnights
NHT 2.5i's

My search for the appropriate speaker wire for my system is over. I had tried another model from Audioquest, Esoteric and Monster Cable but none got near the Midnight 2 of Audioquest. I could have tried the very expensive model from Monster but when I auditioned the Midnight 2 I told myself I found it. Very balanced, neutral and smooth sounding cable. I got mine for a steal (about $14.00 per 3 feet pair). It was old stock according to the dealer. Audioquest does not make them anymore because there is the Midnight 3.

Strength:

Crystal clear sound, bass reproduction, every sound that came out of my speakers was improved

Weakness:

thick and hard to connect

I found this for an amazing deal used on ebay and will never need to buy another set of main speaker cables again. Well at least until I wear these out and when I do I'll want the exact same things again. I've built up a system that I am in love with and can sit in front of for hours whether it's listening to CD's or watching DVD's. Crystal clear sound, emphatic bass, completely full and rich sound that matches my system perfectly. I am so in awe of the upgrade that these cables performed on my system that I don't know how to fully describe it. If you find them, try them!!!!

My setup:
Nakamichi AV-2 (receiver)
Nakamichi MB-10s (CD changer)

I got this pre-owned speaker cable at HK$400 (=US$52) was surprised by it soundage, detail and smooth. It works great with my Copland CSA-28 and KEF LS 3/5A. Highlt recommend to try it.

Strength:

The cables are top notch. They allow tremendous detail to make it through to the speakers. The bass is super powered. Attractive blue color.

Weakness:

The cables are like neighborhood power lines. They are thick and scary looking - that may be part of the appeal. The downside is that the stiffness makes you have to work with them longer to complete the connection.

I traded my Rotel 810 amp for a Krell KAV-300i. Thought that would give me a lot more bass. Instead, the Krell gave me a moderate improvement. The Midnight 2 cables made the real difference. When I took the cheap cables off and put the midnights on, the room started shaking. The dynamics and detail were sweet. These cables let everything out of the amp to the speaker with high quality. That says it all.

My system:

Rotel phono stage
Rotel 950 cd player
Audioquest Lapis X3 interconnects
Krell KAV-300i integrated amplifier
Rega Planar3 turntable with Audiotechnica OC-9 cartridge
Vandersteen 2CE Floor standing speakers

AQ Midnight does a lot of things right and very little wrong. The entire AQ line may be undergoing a retooling. Great bargins are to be had on the entire line. I have recently seen Forest selling for Midnight prices. An 8 or 10 pr. of Midnight used to go for around $300. Less now? You have to spend a lot more to get a lot more ($1000). Current config is X3? Shop around on price. Great used deals on this cable. You cannot go wrong with this cable. Been around long enough to be considered a Classic.
