Not the best sockets

Cables are a big hype and a scam. Sure, there is an difference between cables, but not a $1000 audible difference. For some reason, the cable has been introduced as an expensive component, when it should only carry the signal. Salesmen in Hi Fi stores told me that one should spend about 10% of the cost of a system on speaker cables and interconnects...! It's preposterous! What a bunch of lying crooks and idiots.

As I've already stated, there IS a difference between cables, but how do you know which is more true to the original recording?

Anyway, I almost fell for this cable scam before I wised up and came to my senses. I borrowed a couple of rather expensive interconnects from TARA Labs (can't remember the number) that were about twice as expensive as the Pacific cables. The TARA Labs cables actually sounded a lot worse than the pacific (although they had better sockets), so I quickly realized that I might as well stop looking for more expensive cables.

The Pacific cables are much better than the crap you get with your components and at a decent price. I'm not going to use any idiotic adjectives to describe how these cables sound (cables don't sound, CD players, amps and speakers do). However, compared to the TARA Labs interconnects, bass was deeper and better defined and treble was much smoother.

Please don't spend a fortune on cables, Cambridge Pacific cables are more than good enough.

Its weaknesses

Bass has no definition or true extension, non-existent soundstaging, muted treble, VERY slow.

ANYONE LOOKING FOR CABLES, TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY THEM IN YOUR OWN SYSTEM. Its a minefield, virtually every cable will sound different in different setups - the beauty being you can fine-tune the sound this way, the peril being the only way is to try THEN buy.

All I can say is IN MY SYSTEM - Arcam Alpha 7SE, Arcam Alpha 9C pre-amp w. true class A headphone output, Senheisser HD25 pro monitoring headphones - Ive been struggling with the EXTREMELY shut-in sound for months. Always thought the much more listenable sound from my Tuner was due to, well - the tuner and broadcasts. Swapped interconnects round today, replacing Cambridge Audio for THE CHEAPO 'SUPPLIED WITH COMPONENT' CONNECT and wow!

MUCH MORE OPEN, MORE BITE AND LISTENABLE. Then came in the bass, and this is when the realisation began: bass was deeper, more articulate and had impact. Better all round: detail, less distortion, less hiss, and a soundstage i never knew my headphones bothered with - the cambridge connects have a left/right approach.

Strange thing is, with budget speakers - the toned down treble and left/right makes the sound SEEM 'fuller', and wider/in stereo.

Just proving, try, try, try, try, try - forget all these reviews (hypocrite me), find a friendly dealer and weigh your options up.

ive already popped down to my (very good) dealer - I never saw justifiable differences in cable before using my revealing headphones and making the switch.

For interests sake, Tried Van den Hul D102 and Nordost Solarwind - both were a massive improvement, tracks previously unlistenable now make me grin with their clarity. But, Nordost IN MY SYSTEM was superior in absolutely EVERY respect, not what all reviews say...

This is a bright yellow assymetric interconnect cable, costs 30 quid in the UK for a 1m length, terminated by high quality 24k gold-plated plugs
with rubber grips. It made an real difference to my system - not
dramatic, but highs were higher, bass was fuller and there was a sense
that more music was flowing through the speakers. The cable it replaced
was not that cheap - around 15 quid or so I think.

Would be nice to be able to get it in 0.5m lengths.

Weekness show in better equipment

For those with budget systems that don't have the money to burn on expensive cables, these are a good choice. Much better than the cheap stuff you get free with your components. Well balanced sound with good detail for the price. I tryed them on a high end system and they seemed to be a little clinical sounding, but they were not designed for high end anyway.
