Strength:
Very affordable high end cables!
Weakness:
With the price to performance comparison, they have none. I have had the oppotunity to enjoy a very wide range of audio equipment and a boat load of interconnects, power cords, and speaker wire. All from a wide variety of price ranges. I have found that in some direct comparisons between, Acoustic Zen Silver Reference, Cardas Golden Reference, Nordost Quattro fil, and several others. That Mel has got a smashing success with his Reference Interconnect. Some of the other cables have there own sonic signature and do a very good job in a multitude of areas. But, Mels cables were right on there heels! Except for price. That is where Crystal Clear made a mad dash for the finish line. With there performance to price ratio, I can not with all honesty say that all of the other cables I compaired were better than the Reference Series. Because they were in some areas but not in others. The cables I recieved from Mel sounded very neutral and smooth from the very start and only got better after about 25 hours of break in time. They opened up even further and widened the sound stage . It made it seem like I was at concert with all of the feeling a expression that one would feel at such an event. I could not even begin to express my warmest appreciation for these cables. I could start by giving you a list of my reference systems, but it would be too much, I have 4 rooms that I have a very diverse set up. From tubes to solid state the Reference Interconnects were a performer in all of them. I would suggest that if anyone wants to set up a system and not take out a second mortgage for there interconnect purchase, try them. You will be in awe at the performance and at the low price tag. And finally I would like to thank Mel himself for being a very warm and likable guy. I hope to do more business with him very soon. Overall

None This is a review for Crystal Clear Power Cord. I came accross the ad at Audiogon of this amazing powercord. Pure Silver, Not too pricey, Good looking and the built is incredibly solid. The Jacket is unique, never before seen, non-plastic silky cloth material. The most irresistible feature is, The Guaranteed full refund!! So I took the bait, what the heck, if its not that good, I will return it. I called to order and tried it with my sytem. I have a Krell KAV 250CD, Krell KAV 250A poweramp and Krell KAV 250P preamp, to go with my Coincident Super Eclipse Speakers, and Believe me, it really did some Major Improvement in all areas. Instead of Returning it, I ordered a couple more. Similar Products Used: Silver Audio, Cardas, Kimber, and some Custome made. |

Strength:
Great price-performance ratio. Lush, transparent, high definition sound. Excellent imaging. Wide soundstage. Dead quiet background. Great dynamic range. Warm, balance,full-bodied sound that's superbly musical.
Weakness:
None. Absolutely none, unless you call a 20-30 hour break in time to reveal the interconnect's full glory a weakness. I've known Mel Llave, owner and designer of Crystal Clear Audio cables, for over a year and a half, ever since I bought one of his solid silver interconnects after running into his ad on Audiogon. What I received was the older version of the Crystal Standard, and while it looked visually challenged, it was a giant killer--to my ear superior to MIT Terminator and active shielding Synergistic Research cables. In short order, virtually every IC I had in my tri-amped system was the older version Crystal Standard--I say older, because Mel tells me his new Crystal Standard is not only better looking than mine but better sounding as well. When Mel told me he had introduced a new improved solid silver wire interconnect, the Crystal Reference, I decided to buy one. After breaking it in, I ran a quick A-B on the modest stereo system I have in my study--Sony ES integrated amp, an old high end Denon CDP, and PSB Gold i speakers--with an MIT 330 series II Terminator (MSRP $919). The Crystal Reference was more efficient, but after compensating for that, it still had more detail definition, better imaging, a wider soundstage, greater dynamic range, and all in all was fuller, warmer and more musical than the MIT. In comparisons with my older Crystal Standard, the same differences showed up, but to a lesser degree. In my living room, I have a tri-amped three way full range Heil Air Motion Transformer plus subwoofer, run through a dbx professional variable electronic crossover, vtl tube amps, a Nakamichi CA-7A preamp (for its wonderful moving coil phono), a Sony SCD 777ES, and a VPI TT with modified Rega 300 tone arm and Benz Micro MC cartridge. I replaced the older Crystal Standard connected to the SCD 777ES with the Crystal Reference, and again, everything that had happened in my study occurred again, only less dramatically. This is one unbelievable interconnect! You owe it to yourself to give it a listen. You won't be disappointed, and besides, Crystal Clear Audio offers a money back guarantee if you're not satisfied. But before you do an A-B break it in for at least 20-30 hours. Mel's right--after that, you won't believe how good this $225 interconnect is until you A-B it with ICs two to ten times more expensive.
