Strength:

very good soundstaging, airy and sweet treble, very detailed

Weakness:

a little soft in the bass

I wasn't supposed to do a review (I'm not a fan of such) of this cable but because of its excellent performance, I have to do justice and salute this "little" cable. It turned my entry level system to a higher level (around 2 notch). It is really a 5 star performer w/ a high end finesse, clarity and startling detail. Compared to the IXOS, its a winner from all aspects. It match the sweetness of the MIT 4 and Indigo. Just curious how it will perform if I use double run per speaker. Anyone tried ? Pls tell me the result.
By the way I am using a Marantz CD player and amp w/ Aegis Ones speaker.

Strength:

Clean and fast, it just gets on with its job and imposes no overt colorations or manipulations on the overall sound of my system

Weakness:

Thus far I have heard nothing crazy from it to scare me into another upgrade. :)

I belong to that category of hifi lovers who believe that sonic distinctions amongst most speaker-cables are very miniscule, and that all (competently manufactured) speaker cables have very little influence on the sound of a system. :)

I am using this attractively slim and fairly flexible QED between my NAD C370 and Castle Acoustics Harlech S2 loudspeakers, and it gets the job done. The oh-so-sexy Harlech S2s are very revealing speakers with magnificent bass extension, and when driven by the NAD via the QED cable, show off their sonic prowesses to the hilt. Treble is extended but not screechy, midrange is alive and fluid, and bass is deep, thunderous and tight. The entire frequency spectrum is reproduced well with no one band being overemphasized to the detriment of the others.

Yeah okay, so maybe this QED may have contributed a little to the magnificence of the sound. A perfect fit-and-forget-about-it accessory then... :-)

Strength:

A very detailed sounding cable that gives the upper frequency extension. Surprisingly, it brings live to my sound system compare to my Chord Company cable, which is more tame in teh sound. I got back the details in my music finally, however, if your system is too bright, avoid thsi cable.

Weakness:

None for me.

Buy it if you lack detail and clarity in yr system.

First I saw this cable in What HI-FI magazine. They said it is best buy in it's class so I decided to buy some and try it (by the way, the price here in Slovenia is almost one third of the price in UK).I probably expected too much from this cable, but the music wasn't listenable anymore after putting it in my system. Sound became flat, noisy and there was no energy in low frequency range. I hate it.
If you are about to buy those cables think again. My advice for low cost cables is "TRANSPARENT AUDIO The Wall". It costs around $12/m and is meant to be installed in walls but this does not mean that it is not a good cable. It gives a smooth midrange, a lot of energy in bass, and ultra clean treble.

When recently building a new pair of speakers I chose to use this cable for the internals, I then finished the chain by using two runs to bi-wire to my monoblocks. I have to say that the sound is fantastic, bass is well extended and controled, mid range is very clean and the trebble rolls off at the upper limits of my hearing. The cable has got better over time, initialy it was a little harsh and compressed but after 100+ hours it is now very sweet indeed.
I tried the same runs fo cable with Audio Analogue electronics with Opera speakers and the mid range was awsome - the bass perhaps a little light but still very tunefull - perhaps the cable likes 4ohm loads??

For the money there is nothing I have found to match it, the other reviewer might think a 120% price differential is a small hike in price but for me it was the difference between single and bi-wire runs!

Well worth an audition.

Chris..

I recently bought a new pair of speakers, the Dynaudio Audience 40. I had a very cheap cable and therefore I needed a new cable. I read a review in What Hifi about this cable and it got an award for best buy. Well that was just what I needed. Not spending too much money, but not forgetting the quality. And I'm really satisfied with this cable. If you don't have biwiring this cable is really fantastic. It's really full of detail, but not only in the high range but also in the bass. It gives enough power and it's really worth listening to this cable. I read the other review on this page from the man who give this cable one star. The only thing I can say is: you're sure you don't have a fake QED. I really think this one is fantastic. Five stars.

I am listening this cables on NAD C340 and NAD C440 tuner with KEF Coda 9 speakers.

I have used Oelbach 1056 cables before, made in Germany. I could not beleive how my system improved with Qed Qudos Silver Special 25th anniversary edition cables. Like I have bought speakers tree times expensive! It took about 40 hours to burn in! Now, it really rocks! I am especially satisfied with midrange! Realy best product of the year 1999.

Recently bought Gale 315 Biwire which sounded superb but was too clumpy for our decor (I couldnt hide 2 runs under the carpet). Changed it for the QED silver and noticed that the bass is not as full sounding but otherwise the same, perhaps marginally clearer treble. The cable is nice and small though. Im now looking to keep this for the treble and buy a cheaper wire for the Bass.
