Purchased the wire over the internet, without ever having the chance to audition it. Even when plugging it in, I had some doubts linger- not that I paid too much (impossible), but for the wasted time. The wire is kind of chunky, but surprisingly easy to work- everything slided in quite nice and smooth without trouble. Turned everything on and started to listen. The first notes were just as I remembered the old Transparent to be: warm and plumpy, well grounded. But that was just the beginning. Intrigued of course, I started to listen more carefully. The cable had not seen use in a while, so it needed break in. At first there were two big audio patches, one covering the highs, the other the lows. Both were rather well constructed, showing good extension and detail. I had already starting to enjoy the sound. Cymbals hats were easily to spot, while microdynamic plays just stood out. Good beginning, I thought. The frequency extension was a total surprise at that point, coming off of a solid silver wire, which I thought should have enough extension to begin with. Next the two big sonic patches began to swing across to each other and meet in the middle. That was right about when I switched to a Miles CD, dry cooked by the engineer probably to give ff more ambiental cues in the upper octaves. I started more and more noticing instruments distinctively play on their own and with each other, depending on what you were listening towards. I had no trouble distinguishing Miles' trumpet from the accompanying saxophone; although they sounded quite distinct, they were never as sovereign from each other, something again I did not notice with the silver wire. It was at this point where I said, ok, enough. I got more than I bargained for. Could you please wake up from your dream? But the dream refused to quit. There was more in store. I noticed different sounds, as in the way they were played. Little sounds, like high cymbal hats, were subdued at times, and they had no sustain or decays- they were just little sounds, with short lived attacks. Then suddenly I had a soundstage, big and bold- here's the big double bass at the left, its notes played fervently. The piano, with the ebony notes, at the left, musical and sweet. Every instrument had its own speed and energy, trying to make a lasting impression, but most importantly, played on the same scene. Ok, I give up. I am having a field day, somebody stop me!!! Towards the end of Miles Davis Blue album, my system, which the Tran

Transparent works well for me. I don't notice any loss at any frequency. It is a quality piece of wire.

The Wave is Transparent's cheapest speaker cable. Unlike other Transparent cables, this one does not include the network box. The overall build quality of this wire is average to those priced at the same range. As for the sound quality... I compared it to Kimber 4VS of the same length. The Kimber has a more neutral if flat sound. The Transparent prevails in the lower frequencies and midrange area but it seems to have filtered out most of the treble. The difference is so apparent that I converted a non believer overnight. This is typical in all Transparent interconnects so I think it's a characteristic of Transparent products. Personally I prefer the sound of the less expensive Kimber better. If you have a bright sounding SS system, you should give Transparent a try. Otherwise, it's just another good looking wire.

Strength:

airy, large soundstage

Weakness:

loss of midrange and bass, harsh

Upon the recommendation to two reputable stereo shops I installed this wire, replacing some Audioquest Indigo that was too short. After many months of listening, I'm ready to pull it out and chuck it. Currently no one listens to the system anymore it sounds so bad.

Just for fun I tried 2 runs of this stuff between my Mark Levinson No.27 amplifier and Apogee Stage Loudspeakers. The Bass response was good, midrange a bit too forward and the highs were rolled off at the upper end of the frequency range. I did not do any measurement to get an exact reading at the point in which the cable rolled off the highs, nor did I even want to bother. As soon as I replaced the WAVE with Kimber 8TC it was like I took a thin blanket off of the Stage's. The previous reviewer is right, for over bright sounding systems this may help....otherwise seek other cables in this price range.
