I was compelled to replace my very old Van Den Hul MCD-352 as a result of carbon and replaced it with the recent D-352 model for a stereo setup.

As a VDH fan I was patient to let the cable burn-in and the results were outstanding. Warm mids- well controlled highs and deep bass to motivate one to listen for many more hours.

IMO VDH cables (The Bay/The Name/D-352) are a great match to my Quad 909/CDP-2 and the Meridian 501 pre-amp with Paradigm Monitor 11 Series 7 loudspeakers.

I compared Van Den Hul D-352 against some Kimber cables (8PR, 8VS) and the Monster Z2R. My speakers are Monitor Audio RX8, driven by a Musical Fidelity M3i stereo amplifier.

It is true than Kimber and Monster cables produce a little bit more dynamic sound and heavier bass than VDH and if you are opt for dance music you should probably prefer them. On the other hand, VDH's bass and dynamics are still pretty good, while the midrange is excellent. Kimber's bass nearly dominates the other sounds (and caused me a headache after some time of listening), while Monster's highs are too bright. Even if this is a problem of my speakers (can't tell for sure), and not of the cable, then having a cable that fixes it is OK with me.

The sound by VDH feels more coherent and warm, which allows for listening many hours of music without any problem. The sound by Kimber/Monster is a little bit more impressive, but after some time it becomes annoying. At least, according to my system's settings. With other system, this might be different.

Pros:
Warm, coherent sound, very good bass and dynamics, allows for enjoying music for many hours.

Cons:
If you are opt for dance music, you might prefer a cable with more impressive bass and higher dynamics.

Van Den Hul D-352 Hybrid

Nice detail, nice warm mids. The music feels “up-front” – more alive – like in a real live performance. The cable digs deep – suddenly there were some deep bass I hadn’t noticed before all around.

I ran an A/B test with VdH Tha Magnum Hybrid. The Magnum was more "analytical" - lots and lots of detail, but less of that musical presence.

Pros: Detail, varm, up-front mids, deep bass. Easy to terminate. Nice looks. Bendable.

Cons: None - but as always this is dependent on your setup
