price vs. performance, noticed no difference over monster crap

I was really excited to try this cable after all the great reviews I've seen here. I unplugged my Monster M500 S-Video and hooked everything up (i got 3: dvd-to-reciever, reciever-to-plasma, dtv-to-reciever) and got ready to be blown away. the result? eh, it's alright. no improvement. maybe i should wait 20 hours or so. the result? eh, it's "ok". don't get me wrong, it's a very good product. great color saturation, minimal artifacts, great black repro, and definitely a good smooth film-like quality, however it's not worth $56 a piece, that's for sure. if it gets better miraculously, i'll be sure to write a full retraction.

The black levels I saw using this cable were fabulous. I was watching Lord of the Rings S.E. and the scenes showed exceptional detail. I own a 32" WEGA, and the differences between this and other cables, was VERY noticeable.

I reviewed these cables in May of last year and although I didnt totally trash them, I may have underestimated them. I recently bought a new Progressive Scan DVD player. Actually, I bought 2 of them (let me explain). I first bought a Toshiba 5700. I hooked it up to the my Sony 36XBR400 and did a split screen comparison, with a lot of going back and forth between inputs at full screen, watching the same movies (Phantom Menace, Shrek, etc) on both players at the same time to compare this new Progressive DVD player to my old Toshiba 3109. I had the 5700 hooked up via Monster Cable Video 3 Component cables and the 3109 hooked up via the BetterCables S-video cable. "This 5700 DVD player is a piece of crap" I thought. The colors seemed washed out compared to my older non-progressive scan DVD player. I returned the 5700 and picked up the new Denon DVD-900. Again, same problem. The colors on the Denon player seemed washed out. In addition to the colors seeming washed out and with my wife and father in the room, we all tried to determine which player had a sharper/clearer picture. We couldn'y clearly pick one player over the other. "How can this be I thought?" I then decide to switch the cable connections on the 2 players. I ain't the smartest man in the world, but I know that a $90 Component video cable is supposed to look better than a $50 S-video cable. Especially when the $90 cable is hooked up to a progressive scan DVD player on a digital TV. So not only did I throw $40 away when I bought the Monster Cable instead of buying another BetterCables S-video cable, but I returned what was probably a perfectly fine Toshiba 5700 DVD player and spent $50 more on the Denon model. That $90 could have bought me a BetterCables Component video cable, which is what I'm probably going to do now anyway. So, in conclusion, I would like to retract my previous post of 3 stars and change it to 5 stars for value and give it 4 stars overall . I'm still not saying its the greatest cable I have ever used, but it is indeed a great deal for the price and it is a very good cable overall.

It is probably a better value for progressive scan players.

Even with an interlaced system, I could see a visible improvement over my old Radio Shack cable. Colors are very rich and vibrant and the overall picture looks much cleaner.

for the same price as the Monster s-video cable, I enjoy the best my dvd player and my 16:9 32" set can play...
I don't think I'll be able to get a better result or there is something I missed somewhere.

Been running an A/R s-video cable (5m) for about a year and half now until I decided to try the Bettercables premium s/video cable.

Source is the Pioneer 717 DVD player and output is the Pioneer SD-T50W1 widescreen RPTV (Asian & Australian model). Ran the A/R through the AV3 input and BetterCables through AV4 input for a comparison.

Test disk was "What Dreams May Come" R1 DVD. This disk has an excellent selection of scenes: very dark scenes as well as a nice mix of outdoor and indoor scenes. What I like about using this disk is that the director chose to use very strong colours through the scenes: strong blues, reds and lashings of violets throughout.

It is a disk I used to select the RPTV as well as any future video equipment.

When I ran the disk against the 2 cables, there was a noticeable difference in favour of the Bettercables:
1. Improvement in the clarity. Most noticeable on the closeup of the faces.
2. Better saturation of the colours. Lovely scene of Robin
Williams in the painted field of flowers.
3. Nice shadow detail. Better details coming through. The scene in the "cottage in hell" was better - this was aparticularly dark scene with lots of shadow and light.

Best moment was the lightning scene - now THAT is the lightning scene with the Bettercables !

Before the I bought the cable I was quite happy with the image I was getting from my A/R cable. I was oohing & aahing whether to purchase the Bettercables. I decided to contacted Brad at the last moment and he happily expressed shipped the 7m cable. Well worth the money and time !

Like someone above, I thought expensive cables were just smoke and mirrors. However, I had some extra money from Christmas and I needed a new cable for my home theater (Sony D50 FPTV on an 8-foot screen with a DVDO line doubler powered by a Toshiba DVD), so I thought I would give Better Cables a try. At $45 for a meter cable, it seemed like a good gamble.

After installing the cable, I put it to the ultimate test which was to invite my wife to watch Toy Story 2 (the subtleties of home theater totally allude her). We have watched this movie many times, so she was familiar with how it looked on my system. With the great opening scene showing a star field and colorful text, she immediately commented on how “3D” the picture looked. A few scenes later, she said, “wow, look at those reds.” A little later on, she commented, “what did you do the projector, this is the best it has ever looked.” Trust me – you cannot have a higher recommendation than to produce a product that improves the picture to such an extent that my wife notices.

I tested it later on some of my Technicolor favorites like Wizard of Oz and Singing in the Rain, and the colors had more impact and I saw a greater distinction between similar colors (like the subtle difference in the costume colors in the crowd scenes of the “Gotta Dance” number). I used U-571 to test how it performed with dark scenes, and I was impressed with the extra detail I could see with all the pipes and gages on the submarine.

These are my conclusions: cleaner colors – especially reds; greater resolution in dark scenes – I noticed many details that were previously lost in the murk; and cleaner and more distinct transitions between colors. Bottom line, a more film-like look with definite enhancement to the 3D appearance of the picture. I am a believer in “Better Cables.”

I hooked up this cable roughly 1 month ago and it is easily the best Svideo cable I have ever seen. The picture quality from my Sony DVP-S7700 DVD player is so warm and sharp. The colors are deep without being over emphasized. I had been using the Monster video 3 which just did not impress me. The Better Cable is without a doubt the best choice. The customer service and speedy delivery are top notch too. By the way, I also bought BetterCable Digital Coax, Interconnects and a subwoofer cable from BetterCable. They are all very very good and deserving of a 5 rating. Try these, you will see what I mean.

These cables, while expensive, brought an immediate improvement in the clarity and color to my dvd's. My current equipment line up is:

Denon 2700 A/V receiver (85 watts/channel)
Pioneer 434 dvd player
Sony 35 inch 4:3 TV (not HDTV)
Martin Logan SL3 mains
Martin Logan Cinema center
JBL surrounds

While is was pleasantly surprised by the improved color quality and brightness when I switched from a Sony 330 dvd player to the Pioneer, I was staggered by how much these cables helped improved the overall viewing experience.

All of the colors are much more natural now. Flesh tones are rich and warm. All of the color seems to "snap" off the screen, but I can detect no over-saturation. In fact, I thought my TV was in bad need of convergence adjustment, but these cables solved much of that problem as well.

I had tried the Monster M500V, but could not tell much difference to the cheaper Monster product. The Better Cable product blows both of them away.

I can watch for hours, find that I am not fatigued, and am enjoying my video system more than ever. Even my wife, not a finicky viewer, saw the difference and thought the investment was money well spent.

I just wish cables (all cables) weren't so darn expensive. But, based on the quality of the picture I am getting, I believe better cable is a value leader along with the performance star.
