Strength:

tuner, speakers, remote,

Weakness:

cd player....CLEAN YOUR LENS!!!!

Please read and follow if you are experiencing problems with your Aiwa CD player!!! The Aiwa CD players work in the following manner: When a CD is inserted into the system, the CD player looks for the presence of a CD even before it tries to turn the CD. The result is that the system could appear as if it cannot read a CD, as if it cannot rotate a CD (a bad motor), or as if it cannot recognize that a CD is present. This will often cause the system to cycle through your CD's without reading any of them....and without even trying to turn any of them....

DISCLAIMER:I am not responsible for anything that you do to your system or to yourself when performing the following procedure.....

DO NOT WORRY....simply remove the seven black screws on the housing....once the cover is off of the unit....plug the unit into the wall and press the CD tray eject button...take a can of compressed air....or a q-tip....once the tray is ejected, you will be able to see the lens/motor mechanism....use the compressed air to blow all of the dust and crap away from the lens....If you are using a q-tip....GENTLY wipe across the face of the lens a number of times....

Close up your unit and insert a CD...you have just revived your CD player!!!!

Your $300+ investment isn't a piece of crap anymore!!!

Good Luck..

Strength:

came with decent speakers

Weakness:

CD player -it broke in the first year

Just want to thank everyone for their review...now I know that I am not the only one who is absolutely frustrated with AIWA. This will be my last AIWA purchase! The CD player seems as though it has a weak motor or something because it recognizes that a CD is there and that there are X many tracks but it can not read the actual music. It just keeps spinning the CD varying speeds. I will take everyones's advice and try using compressed air to clean out dust that may have been captured oon the lens but overall this piece of equipment is of the poorest quality.

Strength:

power, tape

Weakness:

cd player, speakers

good: lots of power, clean sound from the amplifier, good surround options
bad: crappy cd player (i cleaned it with a q-tip whenever the cs -mechanism stopped reading). this helped initially but after a couple of years, getting the cd to play at all was too much of a hassle. the speakers are crap, boomy bass and no treble whatsoever, i think the tweeter on these aiwas isnt connected or something like that since i can't hear any treble even when i put my ears to the speaker.

for all of you who have have nsx v70's with good a amp section, buy a decent set of speakers, and a portable or component cs player and connect them, instead of wasting money repairing it, because by the time the cd dies on you, the warranty wil usually have expired. that way, when you eventually junk it (and you will, believe me), you will only need to buy a reciever or will have may other upgrade options available.

thats my $0.002

Strength:

Sounded good while it lasted, had 4 point surround

Weakness:

CD player

I bought this system while I was still in High School because I didn't think I'd be able to afford a component system - I should've bitten the bullet and done it right the first time!

This system wasn't TERRIBLE while it worked, but it ended up completely crapping out on me. First, the CD player stopped reading CD-R's (which it had previously done with no problem whatsoever). It then started having trouble seeking on regular CDs. Now, it takes it several minutes to spin up a CD and start playing it (and it starts somewhere in the MIDDLE of the first track). My warranty had expired by the time this happened, so I didn't feel it was worth repairing - I cleaned the whole thing several times, but nothing seemed to work. I eventually gave up and purchased an Onkyo TX-DS474 receiver and a decent pair of Infinity Reference 71 speakers, and I am MUCH happier.
The real kicker is that my setup now cost me LESS than the original price of this AIWA.

Strength:

Powerfull for it's size, excellent remote features

Weakness:

CD changer

I had the same experience with my CD changer as many others. The system worked fine for a little over two years, then all of a sudden the CD changer would spin the CDs a little bit then stop and search. I thought there was something serious wrong with the changer and I went without use of it for a year. I was seraching the WEB tonight for an AIWA service center, and thankfully YAHOO brought me to this site. I took Robert's advice (thank you Robert!)and within fifteen minutes my system is operating like new! Now I have to ask, if this is such an extensive problem couldn't AIWA have at least sent us consumers a service notification or something? I also found a nicely cross threaded screw in the housing compliments of the AIWA factory. Aside from the CD changer problem it's a pretty good little system, however because of this, my next one WILL NOT BE AN AIWA!!!
