No HDCD decoding, upsampling, SACD, or DVD-Audio.

Probably the finest CD player available for under $1K. Build quality exceeds NAD classic series, and sound quality matches that of the DAC in my $2600 Anthem AVM-2 preamp-processor. In fact, even CD players costing 2-4 times as much (see below) aren't sufficiently superior to warrant the price inflation, IMHO. This machine is night & day superior on CD to Denon's otherwise excellent universal disc players (see below), at least before Underwood Hi-Fi & The Parts Connexion modifies them (which makes a very nice improvement in the analog stages). So I happily use both the Arcam CD73T & Denon's DVD-2200 (for all but CD) in my bedroom system, for slightly less (and higher resale value) than the cost of a modded Denon. However, the modded Denon DVD-2900 in my main system is a bit better yet...

Clarity, seperation, low frequency extension, natural sound

I have rediscovered my CD collection! I was on the universal player bandwagon and replaced my Adcom Cd player with a Pioneer Elite dv-45a for both CD and DVD-A/SACD playback. I loved the DVD-A performance with my Pioneer but the CD playback was bad. Picked up the Arcam and have been really happy. The soundstage, the low frequency extension, are amazing. I still love the new audio formats, but if you are like me with over 1000 cds, you need a good dedicated cd player like the arcam. I auditioned this player against the Azur 640 and there was no comparison. The seperation and low frequency extension were definitely noticeable. Overall the Arcam is a great product no matter what music you listen to...
