An even better set of results are to be had through a rebuild of the PS2, turning it into 2 descrete power supplies,as well a a parts upgrade.
The same can be said for the DDE 3. The PS2 and DAC 3 were modified by Jeff Scheid of Vintage Technoledgy. My transport is an original Audio Alchemy
2-box model which was rebult by Andy Bartha. His work was enthusiastically reviewed in Bound for Sound. Again, there were some moderate modifications in the circuit. The major work was in replacing the "el-cheapo" stock components with a higher grade.

The result:
It beats the pants off of systems costing $5K and up.
It was not embaressed by the Levinson's, Spectrals, or Audio Research systems.
[I never compared it to the CEC.]

Audio Alchemy developed great designs, but was forced to use cheap components to keep the price down. (Just imagine how little was spent on the chasis.) Too bad they went belly-up. Mark Shifter and his crew opened, if not created a market for after market components and in the process brought the public closer to enjoying music.
