Strength:
Strong Dynamic, smooth, and powerful bass!!!
Weakness:
Built quality and factory services are not up to my expectation for a $2000 product(Price at the time of purchase). I have use and own CAL cl-10 for more than 2 years now. I have no complaints about the sound quality, especially consider the price. I am a careful person, I always make sure everything I buy is good value. So I tried to listen as many players as I could. From what I heard in the store and what I read from stereophile review confirmed my choice. No Long in Production Have had the CL-10 in my system for just short of one year and am about as satisfied as I can be for the money. I had Sony's top ES five-disc changer before the CL-10. The ES needed some warranty repair, so after fixed it had to go. But, once I A/B'd the two units the Sony definitely had to go, anyway. The CL-10's superior clarity and sound-stage were immediately obvious in my system (McIntosh C38/MC500 driving a pair of Aerial 6 speakers). Made me wonder why I listened to the Sony for so long. Guess it was brand loyalty after listening to a Sony CDP-100 ten-disc changer for almost ten years. After the two Sony's I now understand why my primary listening was always to vinyl. With the CL-10 I am about 50% each. But, I can no longer listen to most of my older CD's. They are so harsh, grainy and "edgy" that I find listener fatigue sets in after about 10 minutes. That is the biggest drawback to the CL-10. It exposes poor quality CD's in an instant. It is not quite as flexible as the Sony and some functions run only from the remote. But the sound. To quote the politicians - "It's the SOUND, stupid." And the CL-10 hs the sound. Next thing is to try the top MSB digital processor to see if an outboard up-sampling is really as good as the boys at Stereophile say it is. The CL-10 is one nice machine. Am now on the third of five Miles Davis CD's as I wait for dinner to cook. Happy Listening! Similar Products Used: Sony CDP-9ES 5-disc Changer |

Strength:
everything
Weakness:
there are no more I just want to thank the other reviewers on this sight for their glowing comments about this cd player. I love it, the sound is absolutely amazing. I just got one of the last two at the factory, very sad because it is just so good. I auditioned a lot of cd players in the $ 3,000 and less area and none sound any better than the cl-10, different but not better. The warmth of this player is perfect with my system. I was originally going to keep my Sony CA80es for casual listening, the cl-10 allows me to have the sound quality of a single player with the added connivance of a carousel. |

Strength:
Detail, warmth, build quality, quick CD exchange
Weakness:
Tracks can only be changed via remote control I hesitated to note any weaknesses (the one I listed was very very minor) because this unit is everything I expected it to be. Apparently they still have a few in stock because one was special ordered for me in August 2000. I upgraded from my old CAL DX-1 and it is a significant step...much much more detail. Folks this thing is built like a tank and sounds like a dream. I have searched far and wide for a true audiophile changer, and this is the only real choice. The unit was indeed officially discontinued in 1999 and I agree that it is unfortunate because it is such a great product. |
