Strength:
BASS... and lots of it. Detail is incredible for the price.
Weakness:
It makes me play music loud in my dorm room and everyone gets mad... muhahahahahahaha For the price you don't get any better, period. The bass and detail from this player absolutely crushes my old Marantz CD-48. The tray is almost silent and very sturdy. The player is better than I could have dreamed. Strength:
For the price the detail is very good.
Weakness:
The controls are rather strange Well I've had this a month now and have been very happy with the results. I'm running the player through a Quad 33/303 and Celestion speakers (all British stuff). The sound I get is warm, full and thanks to the player, much more detailed. Similar Products Used: Japanese rubbish. |

Strength:
Same as everyone else has described before me. Sounds British, with the nice analog sound. Whips every other Asian made piece in this price range.
Weakness:
The usual display being hard to read at odd angles, tray not closing when play is depressed however this is minor nit picking. Well worth the money and certainly worth a listen, do not pass it up. My system consists of 1) C.A. D300 cd player 2)Naim NACA5 speaker cable 3) twin Marantz 1060 vintage int. amps hooked up power/pre-amp. 4) PSB 600 tower speakers Similar Products Used: Pioneer DVD, sony cd player, denon dcm-425, ( don't waste your time ) |

For 180 Pounds sterling (about 300 dollars), this is the best sounding, best made CD player in it's class, and, in my opinion, the nicest sounding player in the class above. The new jog shuttle's OK; a bit fiddly to skip through 20 tracks, but works, feels & looks good. A Classy piece of kit, with a vivid and open soundstage, and exceptional seperation and detail. |

This is a great little cd player! For $350 it is quite a steal....several digital outs, 24 bit, great remote, smooth sound, great soundstage...just to name a few good features about this player. It is definetely a bargain for the money and I suspect that this player and its bigger brother the D500 will become a great sleeper products. If you don't believe it...check it out for yourself! |

Strength:
inredible sound vs. value, very solid all-metal construction, decent remote
Weakness:
display is difficult to view at certain vantage points- a bit of a drag but not a huge deal overall- the sound is worth it this player sounds great and is truly one of the best in its class and perhaps as good as some above its class! i bought the Special Edition D300 that is 24 bit and a great improvement from the D300 itself. the sound gets better and better as it is "broken in" and still sounded very good right out of the box. much more solid than the NAD which i've used in the past with much trouble. not too many frills but if you care about great sound, this one deserves a litsten. and its also upgradable too so you can move up to the D500 SE without having to sell the unit. nice options. i agree with some of the other reviews: it may well be a "sleeper" of the year! Awesome! If you want a no frills, single disc player with great bass and an open soundstage - look no further. It is beautiful in its simplicity. I purchased this player for my bedroom and it rivals my Rotel RCD950. |

Strength:
lush, laid back, plays great rythim, natural, soft treble, warm mids, tube like, makes almost any recording sound better, remote control, and yes-very good build quality
Weakness:
hard to say, sounds a bit 'dirty' or distorted right now ok i've had this player for about 3 hours now. right out of the box it sounded BAD. Now after 3 hours, things got much much better! and i really mean that, the sound became so soft all over the spectrum. It sounds like i bought a tube amp not a cd player! i did use a jvc cd player prior to this, it sounded very crystal like, did not have any natural organic sound to it like this. i was surprised that i could hear the improvement while listening to electronic music more than any other types except jazz where all the brass instruments sounded so warm and smooth now. Listening to portishead live right now and beth gibbons' voice is lush.. so sultry, way more than this morning with my old cd player. of course what can you expect from a jvc cd player? I'm leaving the d300 on repeat for 24 hours to see how much more it improves, i think my only minor complaint, the muddiness or slighty 'dirty' sound will disappear very soon, I have faith in this amazing piece of equipment! Weakness:
none for the price I love this thing! It is my first higher-end cdp, and i'm truely blown away. This player has great bass, and i'm hearing high frequency sounds i never knew were on the recording. I have no complaints whatsoever, except this: my first model had a problem, it would stop for no apparent reason. I took it in to my local shop, they let me borrow a D500, and sent my 300 in to CA. CA sent me a new one, no questions asked. I recommend this to anybody who wants a single disc cdp for under $800. Similar Products Used: Cambridge Audio D500, Rotel |
