Strength:

Solid Construction. Good imaging and soundstage.

I upgraded from a Pioneer CD changer because I wanted digital outputs so I could do the digital recording thing with my minidisc player. I didn't think that there would be major differences between players, but I did notice that the Denon had a better soundstage and the voices seemed more natural. The unit is very well build and quite heavy. I bought this used and think that it'll last me a long time or until I decide to upgrade.
My associated equipment:
Cambridge Audio A500
Altec Lansing 105 speakers
Homebrew interconnects and speaker wires.

DITTO to what the gentleman above said. The DCD 1560 has been flawless for me untill about six months ago, when it slowly started loseing audio(intermitting)the laser was failing. Took it to the repair shop to which they charged me 160.00 to replace the laser,no problem...paid the bill and brought my Denon home with me. My wife (The little dear) asked "why the hell would you pay 160.00 to fix an old CD player, when you can buy a brand new one for 100.00 or less??
I simply said...Honey, you remember the old Soundesign systems with the eight track built in them?? She said "yes" I said "you remember how well they sounded" ??She said, "No...they sounded like shit!! " I said, " Need i say more"?

Thanks, Scott

I bought the DENON dcd-1560 early 1999 second hand for the Dutch equivalent of $250. I believe it still outplays most new players up until $400. For sure I know it sounds much better compared to my old (still playing) YAMAHA cd 450. Especially voices sound much more natural. Although I originally planned to buy an ARCAM CD player, I now hope to use this one until a truly improved new CD format will force me to upgrade.

This is an awesome player I bought back in 1991. At the time it was on the cover of Stereo Review Magazine as one of the best 5 players in the U.S. It continues to serve me until today. The sound is pure, crisp, detailed, and overall-- EXCELLENT. The only thing negative is that the drawer now doesn't close all the way without a little nudge from me. But I chalk that up to the Law of Diminishing Returns. After all I have had this for almost a decade!! Technology has improved the multi CD players now, so that will be my next purchase, probably the SONY CDP-90ES (200 disc changer)(I cant remember the exact model #). Anyway- this Denon DCD 1560 is still at the top of its game soundwise (and looks, too).

Strength:

sound quality, reliability

Weakness:

had one that the door would not completly close

excellent cd player that I have owned since about 1990. I had to return one years ago for a faulty cd tray, but the recent one i have had and used for nearly 7 years withot any problems. Most of my equipment is 10 years old (JBL T100 speakers, Onkyo integra reciever tx 890, the above cd player and and onkyo integra 520 cassette deck) I will be upgrading all of my other pieces except my denon cd player. I would buy a used one without hesitation.
