Strength:

Good mid and bottom bass response.

Weakness:

Sounds quite "hard." In my opinion induces "audible fatigue" after a short listening session. Tray poorly human engineered, i.e. it is difficult to grasp the CDs from the side. Very slow tray motion.

I had high hopes for this CD Player after reading the many positive comments about it, but I was rather disappointed in it when I was given an opportunity to home evaluate it.

Apparently Denon themselves have recognized that it requires updating because in Japan they have released a new model, i.e. the DCD-1650AZ CD Player which incorporates 24 bit DACs. Whether this new CD player sounds better is anyone's guess.

Furthermore repeated inquiries to Denon have not resulted in any information in reference to the possible release date for the new DCD-1650AZ CD Player to the rest of the world.

I will not purchase and I would not recommend the present version of this CD player.
